Daniel Constantino, 20, of Canyon Country, was held to answer to the charges, according to an official with the District Attorney’s Office.

Detectives said the two drove up to Cid’s car in a dark-colored, late-1990s Chevy Impala that parked alongside the victim outside the Canyon Crest apartments in Newhall around 8 p.m. that night.

Constantino was arrested Sept. 27 at 3:45 p.m.

The charges against Constantino include allegations the crime was connected to the furtherance of gang activity.

“(Assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder) are very close,” said Sgt. Dean Currie of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s COBRA unit. “The difference is intent. We’re going to go with attempted murder because of the severity of the injury.”

The Sheriff’s Station’s COBRA Unit, or Career Offenders Burglary Robbery Assault, is a team of detectives who investigate all juvenile and gang-related crime.

Constantino is being held at Pitchess Detention Center in lieu of $1,090.000 bail.
