    Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station Deputies Keeping Close Eye On Parolees

    The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Crime Prevention Unit is keeping a close eye on parolees in its patrol area, said station officials, who released new numbers Thursday.

    “Our primary responsibility as law enforcement is to keep the community safe,” said Sheriff’s Station Deputy Josh Dubin.

    UPDATE: Molestation Charge Dropped Against Legacy Teacher Carl Astrera

    Officials with the District Attorney’s Office dropped a child molestation-annoyance charge against a Legacy Christian Academy teacher Wednesday. Carl Astrera, 35, of Panorama City, was in court for a preliminary arraignment, where he was expected to file his plea to the charge, when Laura Knight Jackson, deputy district attorney for Los Angeles County moved to dismiss the charge. Astrera was arrested around noon Feb. 28 at the private Christian school on the 27600 Block of Dickason Drive in Valencia.

    Santa Clarita Deputies Seek Suspect In ATM-Bank Fraud, W/ Photos

    Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies are seeking a suspect in connection with fraud and forgery charges in the case of a Santa Clarita man who had debit card, checks and other financial information taken from his mailbox. The theft was reported in February, and Sheriff’s Station officials are asking for the public’s help in identifying a person of interest in the reported crimes. The suspect reportedly forged and deposited checks into his bank account using an ATM and the victim’s stolen debit card. Once the checks were deposited, the suspect would then reportedly withdraw cash via an ATM prior to the forged checks being returned as insufficient funds.

    Ventura County Deputies Arrest Suspects After 'Flash Mob' Robbery

    Ventura County Sheriff’s Department officials might have arrested six suspects who committed the March 29 “flash-mob” robbery in Santa Clarita. Lashay Denae Beasley, 21; Mercedes Denise Cannonier, 30; Chappell Lachell Turner, 22; Bianca Dreanne Woodson, 23; Nicole Simone Wigfall, 21; and Andera Danita Rose, 39, all of of San Francisco, were taken into custody around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday in Ventura for burglary, conspiracy, possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools. “Deputies responded to the Tory Burch store in the Camarillo Premium Outlets for a burglary that had just occurred,” according to a Nixle release from statement from the Camarillo Police Department and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

    'Halloween Trio' Accused Of Murder Could Face Trial In June

    A long-awaited Santa Clarita murder trial for three teen suspects accused of fatally shooting a man during an alleged Halloween robbery in 2011 could see jury selection in June, an official said Thursday. The “Halloween trio,” Diamonte Jerome McGhee, 20, Branden Trevaughn Higgis, 19, and Eric Michael Edwards, 19, were all under 18 when they were arrested on charges they were involved in the death of Alex Sanchez and wounded Ricardo Sandoval during a robbery gone awry Oct. 21, 2011. “We expect (jury selection) to start June 23 or June 24,” said Brad Lieberman, the deputy district attorney in charge of the case’s prosecution. The defendants have a June 16 court date, but that’s a pretrial conference for the attorneys, officials said.
