Santa Clarita Valley Crime Reports Released For 01/13-01/19

Crime reports from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station for the week of Jan. 13-19 have been released. Know what's happening in Canyon Country, Castaic, Newhall, Saugus, Stevenson Ranch and Valencia.

Several arrests were reported by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies this week, and five local suspects appeared in court.

Two Neenach residents were arrested by deputies on Thursday during a probation check. June Soper, 55, was arrested for possession of narcotics paraphernalia and methamphetamine. Jorge Jacobs, 26, was arrested on an outstanding felony burglary warrant.

The Castaic Union School District bus yard was hit with vandalism/theft between Jan. 10 and 13, when the tires were stolen off of buses. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

The CHP Newhall Area Office announced that they will hold a DUI Checkpoint in the unincorporated Santa Clarita Valley, on Friday night, between 6:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m.

Two former Santa Clarita students died in an alleged murder-suicide in Syracuse, Utah on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Kyler Ramsdell-Oliva, 32, reportedly killed her daughters Kenadee Oliva, 13, and Isabella Oliva, 7, before turning the gun on herself.

Several suspects with Santa Clarita ties, in court for murder and street racing charges, had their cases continued again this week.

Diamonte Jerome McGhee, Branden Trevaughn Higgs and Eric Michael Edwards are facing five felony counts, including murder and second degree robbery in connection with the 2011 Halloween shooting of Alex Sanchez and Ricardo Sandoval.

Colt Doherty and Thomas Vensko, who were arrested in connection with the January 2012 street racing death of Dakota Demott, had their case continued until Feb. 11.

Last week’s crime reports are listed below, in alphabetical order by community.

Canyon Country east

Last week, the following Part 1 crimes occurred in Canyon Country east:

A strong arm robbery occurred near the 17000 block of Sweet Gum Lane. During this incident a Dominos Pizza delivery man was assaulted as he attempted to deliver a pizza to the location.  When he got out of his vehicle he was immediately assaulted by a male black suspect. The suspect punched the victim in the face causing the victim to fall to the ground. The suspect took the victim’s wallet containing $15 and fled the area. This case is currently being investigated by detectives at the Santa Clarita Valley Station.

A 1987 Ford truck was stolen at the intersection of Jakes Way and Sara Drive. The truck has not been recovered.

While dropping off a mattress on Annes Circle, the victim left her car unattended while taking the mattress into her apartment. When she went back to her vehicle she reported that three cell phones that were in her car had been taken. The victim left her vehicle unlocked and the phones in plain view.

A garage burglary occurred near the 18000 block of Grace Lane. In this incident the suspect(s) entered the victim’s garage by unknown means and stole a “Dawes” road bicycle. There was no damage to the garage and the victim was unsure how the suspect entered the garage.

Canyon Country west

This past week in Zone 7, the following Part-1 Crimes occurred:

(2) Aggravated Assaults, (2) Robberies, (2) Residential Burglaries, (2) Commercial Burglaries

An aggravated assault occurred near the intersection of Golden Oak Road and Soledad Canyon Road. One suspect was arrested for throwing rocks at passing vehicles. Two vehicles were damaged and no one was injured.

A robbery occurred near the 27500 block of Walnut Springs. Two suspects were taken into custody regarding this incident. This incident is being investigated by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A robbery occurred near the 26700 block of Isabella Parkway. The victim was punched in the head and had his cell phone and skateboard taken. This incident is being investigated by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A residential burglary occurred near the 19800 block of Northcliff Drive. Suspect made entry through the doggy door and stole the victim’s laptop. This incident is being investigated by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

Castaic/Val Verde

There were three Part 1 crimes in Zone 2. Two residential burglaries were reported this last week in Val Verde. A house on Delwood Street had jewelry stolen: entry was made through a bedroom window. A house off of Concorse Drive had an attached garage broken into. The homeowner scared off the suspect who left behind two Daisy BB-guns he was trying to steal.

There was one reported case of sexual assault in Castaic. An adult male from Canyon Country sexually assaulted a juvenile female in Castaic. This is an ongoing investigation that will be handled by the department’s Special Victim’s Bureau.

Newhall

A look back at the crimes reported in the Newhall area last week.

Two petty thefts occurred at the Shell gas station, at 23502 Newhall Avenue. One on Wednesday, Jan. 8 and the other on Saturday, Jan. 11.

A lady’s purse was stolen at the Newhall Library on Monday, Jan. 13. The purse was left unattended for a short period of time. When the victim returned, it was gone.

Often crimes are committed because opportunity presents itself. Sometimes because people are comfortable in their surroundings, they become complacent. It’s important for us all to be vigilant in protecting ourselves and our personal property. Crime prevention is much easier than recovering from a loss or an assault.

On Thursday, Jan. 16, a theft occurred at the 7-11 at Lyons Avenue and Apple Street.  

A vehicle burglary occurred between Wednesday, Jan. 15 and Thursday, Jan. 16, at the 24200 block of Cary Court.

A Ford Mustang was stolen from 23600 block of Newhall Avenue between Wednesday, Jan. 15 and Thursday, Jan. 16. The vehicle was recovered by LAPD Mission Division on Saturday, Jan. 18, and had been stripped.

Saugus

There was a reduction in reported Part-1 crimes over the past week, with only three. The first was an assault with a deadly weapon at the 27300 block of Arriola Avenue on Jan. 19. The victim was having a party at his residence when a fight broke out. The suspect retrieved a baseball bat and struck one person and attempted to strike others at the party. He then fled the location.

There was a vehicle burglary in the 22900 block of Oak Ridge Drive between Jan. 12 and Jan. 13. The victim discovered his window smashed and stereo equipment stolen.

A vehicle burglary was reported at the corner of Los Tigres Drive and Diaz Drive between Jan. 12 and Jan. 13. The victim discovered his van had been broken into and high dollar work equipment was stolen.

Detectives are asking that if anyone has any information on the two vehicle burglaries to contact the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

There were multiple arrests over the past week. The arrests include narcotics, theft and assault.

Stevenson Ranch/Westridge

Last week, the following Part 1 crimes occurred in Zone 3 Stevenson Ranch: (1) Residential Burglary, (1) Shoplift, (1) Grand Theft, (2) Petty Theft and (1) GTA.

A residential burglary occurred near the 25200 block of The Old Road. An unknown suspect entered the victim’s hotel room and took money from a cigar box. There were no signs of forced entry into the room.

A petty theft/shoplift occurred near the 25400 block of The Old Road. Loss prevention personnel detained two suspects when they exited the store, failing to pay for several items. The suspects were subsequently arrested by responding deputies.

A grand theft occurred near the 27000 block of Henry Mayo Drive. An unknown suspect cut the lock off a security gate and entered the yard, taking several wheels and tires. The suspect(s) also took two portable stair ramps. The case is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Station detectives.

A petty theft occurred near the 25900 block of The Old Road. The victim left his bicycle outside of the location for a short time. When he returned to check on the bike, it was gone.

A GTA occurred near the 25300 block of The Old Road. A 2007 Yamaha motorcycle was taken from the parking garage.

Valencia

Valencia had twenty Part-1 Crimes reported during the past week, which has been the highest number of reported incidents this year. The criminal incidents included residential/vehicle burglaries, theft from unlocked vehicles, and shoplifting from local businesses.

There were two vehicle burglaries that occurred on the 23700 block of Mill Valley Road between the hours of 3 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. A third vehicle burglary occurred on the 25400 Via Nautica between the hours of 7 p.m. and 10:30 a.m. and a fourth one occurred on the 24300 block of Caladium Place between the hours of 8 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. All burglaries occurred during the week while the vehicles were parked at the victim’s residences. Victims reported that the rear passenger windows had been smashed by an unknown object. Items stolen were an Apple iPod mini, GPS, Dr. Dre Head phones and a personal checkbook from the center console and glove compartment areas of the vehicles.

Two thefts from unlocked vehicles occurred on the 27300 block of Landon Place and 23300 block of Lynham Place between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. Wednesday night. Both victims left their vehicles unlocked. Items stolen were a cell phone, phone charger and high end sunglasses left in the center console area of the vehicles.

A residential burglary occurred on the 25300 block of Fortuna Drive between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. The suspect(s) entered the residence by smashing the kitchen window and exited through the front door as evidence of it being unlocked. Items stolen were numerous pieces of jewelry from the master bedroom.

Bicycle theft is on the rise. Most victims have reported their bikes were locked at bike racks and that the locks/chains were cut off. Please use caution and be cognizant of your surroundings when securing your bicycles. Keep the serial number of your bicycle on file in the event that it is stolen to aid in its recovery.

If you see any suspicious activity, please call the Sheriff’s Station immediately at 661-255-1121. There were multiple arrests made this past week by proactive Santa Clarita deputies assigned to the Valencia area. Arrests included grand theft, drunk in public, and shoplifting from local businesses.
