June 9-15 crime reports are in for Canyon Country, Newhall, Saugus and Valencia. Know what’s happening in your community.

A search and rescue operation, fatal collision and multiple arrests kept Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies busy this week.

Deputies put out a Nixle report last week, reminding parents to keep tabs on their teens during summer and be aware of curfew laws. Parents are also liable in the event of injury or death when alcohol is furnished or allowed to be consumed by a minor.

Six teens and five adults were cited and one was arrested during a curfew enforcement patrol one the night of June 13. Citations included curfew violation and drug possession.

Local deputies joined in the search for an Arcadia firefighter who went missing in Fillmore on Friday, June 13. He was backpacking with a friend when he went chasing after his dog and has not been heard from since.

Andrew A. Reynoso, 18, of Newhall, was killed Wednesday afternoon on San Francisquito Canyon Road when he lost control of his car and collided with a vehicle going the opposite direction.

A teen and an adult were arrested last week in connection with three armed robberies committed in May. In each incident, the victim was surrounded by a group of men and robbed at gunpoint.

Deputies are planning multiple DUI-driver’s license checkpoints within city limits on Friday between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Several suspects with Santa Clarita ties were in court this week.

A pretrial hearing Monday delayed the trial of three then-teens accused of fatally shooting man in an alleged robbery that turned deadly on Halloween 2011.

Desiree Lenore Martinez, 41, who was arrested for animal cruelty in February, was sentenced to one year in jail and three years of probation this week after pleading no contest.

Deputies have released the crime reports for June 9-15 in Canyon Country, Newhall, Saugus and Valencia. KHTS publishes crime reports in alphabetical order by community as they are made available.

Canyon Country Crime – east

There was a grand theft reported near the 28500 block of Sand Canyon Road. In this incident an employee of a gas station took several hundred dollars’ worth of scratchers and currency from the cash register. The employee was arrested for the theft.

A “hot prowl” residential burglary was reported near the 27000 block of Shirley Place. The victim heard a loud noise coming from his balcony window. When the victim went down stairs he saw that his TV was knocked over and his front door was open. The suspect stole the victim’s purse from the location. The victim did not see what the suspect looked like.

A petty theft was reported near the 27600 block of Nugget Drive. In this incident the victim pulled his work truck halfway into a garage of the condo he was working on. When the victim returned to his work truck he discovered that several of his power tools were missing.    

Canyon Country Crime – west

This past week in Zone 7, the following Part-1 Crimes occurred.

A residential burglary occurred near the 27500 block of Deeptree Avenue. The suspect made entry into the residence through an open/unlocked window. While inside, the suspect stole the victim’s safe which contained jewelry. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A vehicle burglary occurred near the 20300 block of Fanchon Lane. The suspect pried open the victim’s driver side door and stole items from within. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A grand theft auto occurred near the 26700 block of Isabella Parkway. The victim’s vehicle was parked in the street. The vehicle was later found burned in LAPD’s jurisdiction. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.   

Newhall Crime

A look back at the crimes reported in the Newhall area last week.

Between Friday, June 13 and Saturday, June 14, a residential burglary occurred in the 25000 block of Newhall Avenue. A television and a game system were stolen.

A hundred gallons of used cooking oil were stolen sometime between May 19 and June 13 from the 23300 block of Lyons Avenue.

On Thursday, June 12 at 4 a.m., a vehicle was reported stolen from the 24700 block of Fourl Road. Moments later, a patrol deputy working the Newhall area spotted the vehicle at a local gas station. The 32-year-old female who was driving the stolen vehicle was arrested and is currently being held on $75,000 bail.

A purse was stolen from a vehicle on Monday, June 9 in the 23700 block of Carl Court. A witness reported seeing an unknown male commit the theft, then flee the area in a dark colored vehicle.

On Friday, June 13, Zone 4 leader Deputy Mark Manskar and Zone 6 (Newhall) leader Deputy Danial Dantice conducted a patrol check in the wash area near Newhall Avenue and Sierra Highway. They were following up on a complaint of transients camping in the wash area. During the check, they contacted a 35-year-old male who after a short investigation we arrested for possession of marijuana for sales, possession of counterfeit currency and a misdemeanor warrant. The male was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

Saugus Crime

The following crimes were reported in the Saugus area over the past week.

There was an attempted burglary at an elementary school in the 28300 block of Alfred Way between June 10 and June 11. Employees at the school discovered a screen was taken off a window of a classroom, and the window had been pushed in. It was determined that no entry was made.

A grand theft was reported in the 28600 block of Farrier Drive between June 9 and June 13. While the victim was away an acquaintance with access to the house stole numerous items from the residence. Detectives are following up on leads to the case.

We had a theft from an unlocked vehicle reported in the 21400 block of Peggy Joyce Lane between June 12 and June 13. The victim discovered items had been stolen from her unlocked vehicle overnight.

There was a vehicle stolen in the 25800 block of Springbrooke Avenue between June 14 and June 15. The victim’s blue/silver Dodge pickup was stolen from the street overnight. Deputies are searching for the vehicle.

Two shoplifts were reported from a grocery store in the 26500 block of Bouquet Canyon Road. Both incidents occurred on June 13. In the first incident the suspect fled after being confronted by store employees for stealing a drink. In the second incident the suspect fled after stealing alcohol. Detectives are working on leads in both cases.

There were multiple arrests made over the past week in the Saugus area. The arrests include possession of narcotics, DUI, assault and theft.

Valencia Crime

During the past week, the criminal incidents reported in Valencia included residential burglary, vehicle burglary, grand theft and shoplifting reports from local businesses.

An attempt residential burglary occurred on the 26700 block of Bouquet Canyon Road at 6 p.m. The victim indicated that he came home and observed that the outer hallway door to his residence had been pried by an unknown object. No entry was made to the home. There were no witnesses or suspects located at the time of the incident.

A vehicle burglary occurred at the 24400 block of Valencia Boulevard between the hours of 10:30 p.m. and 12 a.m. The vehicle was parked in an underground parking structure. Entry/exit was made by smashing the front passenger window with an unknown object. The item stolen was a pack of cigarettes which was left on the front passenger seat.

A grand theft of a bicycle occurred on the 20400 block of Valencia Boulevard between the hours of 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. The bicycle was secured to a bike rack which was located in a shopping parking lot. When the victim returned, he found that the lock off the bicycle had been cut with an unknown object.
