Crime reports have been released by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station for Feb. 10 through Feb. 16.

Follow a busy week involving the pursuit of a stolen vehicle, a death on the Newhall train tracks and a robbery of a Valencia jewelry store, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies have released last week’s crime reports.

Deputies are looking for information from witnesses of a fatal traffic collision in Saugus that killed 20-year-old Dylan Zimmerman, of Valencia, on the afternoon of Friday, Feb. 14.

A Coroner’s Office spokesman identified the man who was killed by a train in Newhall on Tuesday as Joe Miller, 23, of Las Vegas. The incident was initially reported as a suicide.

Two suspects, a man and a woman, were taken to Henry Mayo Hospital on Wednesday after a short pursuit in Valencia that ended in a collision. The suspects were driving a stolen vehicle and sped away when deputies tried to perform a traffic stop.

Deputies are searching for a male suspect who allegedly robbed Andrew’s Jewelers on Town Center Drive in Valencia on Thursday. The owner of the store claimed the suspect had a gun, but no one was hurt in the incident.

There will be another DUI checkpoint in Santa Clarita on Friday, between 6 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. Deputies will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment, as well as proper licensing.

Several individuals with Santa Clarita Valley ties appeared in court this week.

Arthur Lindsey, 73, of Acton, and Jeffrey Edmonds, 37, of Simi Valley were in court Tuesday to schedule their cases. Lindsey is charged with rape and Edmonds is charged with grand theft, impersonating a peace officer and possession of illegal weapons.

Two defendants charged with murder were in court on Thursday.

Scott Shipley, 56, of Acton, who is charged with the May 15 shooting death of Christopher Demyen had a two-hour hearing on Thursday. His jury trial will start on March 3.

Laura Purviance, 25, of Woodland Hills, is charged with the murder of her mother, who was a former Hart District employee. Purviance has a bail review scheduled for March 5.

Bradford Pate, 38, of Burbank, was ordered to stand trial on Friday for five counts, including murder and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He is due to be arraigned on March 5.

Last week’s crime reports are listed in alphabetical order by community.

Canyon Country Crime – east

Last week, the following Part 1 crimes occurred in Canyon Country east: (1) Commercial Burglary, (1) Theft from Vehicle, (1) Attempted Commercial Burglary, (2) Larceny (1) Vehicle Burglary.

A theft from an unlocked vehicle was reported at the 18000 block of Sundowner Way. In this incident the victim left her vehicle unlocked and unattended for a few minutes. When the victim returned she found that her purse was stolen from the front seat of the vehicle. Her purse contained $2000 and jewelry.

There was a commercial burglary reported at “Perfect Nails” on Soledad Canyon Road. In this incident the suspect(s) pried open the rear door to the business and entered the business. The suspect stole tools from inside the business.

Two vehicle burglaries occurred near the 27000 block of Solamint Road. In the first incident the suspect smashed the passenger window and stole a bag of tools that was in plain view. In the second incident the victim left a bag of tools in the bed of his truck which was stolen.

Canyon Country Crime – west

This past week in Zone 7, the following Part-1 Crimes occurred: (1) Aggravated Assault, (1) Residential Burglary, (1) Commercial Burglary, (1) Grand Theft, (1) Petty Theft, (1) Burglary to a Vehicle, (5) Shopliftings, (2) Stolen Vehicles

An aggravated assault occurred near the 18700 block of Bainbury Street. The suspect and victim, who are brothers got into a heated argument. During the argument the suspect retrieved a corkscrew from his pocket and sliced the victim in the forearm. The suspect was arrested at the scene. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Station detectives.

A residential burglary occurred near the 28300 block of Hawks Ridge Drive. The victim’s residence was foreclosed on early last month. When the victim returned early this month to retrieve his property he noticed his AR-15 rifle and Apple computer were missing. There were no signs of forced entry into the location. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Station detectives.

A commercial burglary occurred near the 26500 block of Ruether Avenue. The side door to the location was pried open. The suspect made entry into the location and possibly stole cash from the register. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Station detectives.

A grand theft occurred near Honby Avenue and Soledad Canyon Road. The victim observed an unknown male standing near his vehicle with a car jack. When confronted the suspect dropped an object and sped off in a waiting vehicle. The object was later identified as the victim’s catalytic converter that was cut from his vehicle. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Station detectives.

A burglary to a vehicle occurred near the 19300 block of Stillmore Street. The suspect made entry into the victim’s vehicle with an unknown tool and stole the speakers and an amplifier. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Station detectives.

On Feb. 10 there were three separate incidents of shoplifting from Walmart on Carl Boyer Drive. Two of the incidents resulted in arrests and the third is still outstanding. All three incidents are under investigation by Santa Clarita Station detectives.

A stolen vehicle was reported near the 19200 block of Drycliff Street. While the victim was reporting his vehicle as stolen, deputies on scene observed a vehicle matching the description near the area. They detained the driver and determined the vehicle driven was the victims’ stolen vehicle. The suspect was arrested at the scene. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Station detectives.

Castaic/Val Verde Crime

There was one Part 1 Crime in Zone 2 this past week. An attempt robbery occurred on Violin Canyon Road in Castaic. A juvenile male stopped a man walking and pointed his finger at him simulating a gun and asked the man to give his him money. The victim was afraid the juvenile was threatening him and called the police. The subject was arrested several minutes later by responding deputies.

Newhall Crime

A look back at the crimes reported in the Newhall area last week.

On Thursday, Feb. 13 at approximately 10:30 p.m., a 2006 Pontiac “G6” was stolen from the downtown area near 8th Street and Main Street. The vehicle was recovered by LAPD Mission the next day.

On Thursday, Feb. 13 at approximately 6:30 p.m., a “Razor” scooter was taken from in front of an apartment in the 25000 block of Walnut Street. The 11-year-old victim had left it unattended while he was inside the apartment.

A residential burglary occurred in the 22800 block of Market Street on Thursday, Feb. 13 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. The suspect shattered a rear sliding glass door and took a floor safe. The suspect left the location in the victim’s 2002 Lexus, which was recovered in the 23200 block of Market Street with the engine still running.

This crime occurred during daylight hours. The suspect possibly used the stolen vehicle to transport stolen property and then parked the vehicle at the end of Market Street. After parking the vehicle, the suspect would have likely been seen unloading objects from the stolen vehicle. Between Sunday, Feb. 9 at 10:30 p.m., and Monday, Feb. 10 at 11 a.m., a catalytic converter was stolen from a 1998 Honda Accord, parked on Dockweiler Drive near Ivy Lane.

On Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 10 p.m., a house party in the 23700 block of Valle Del Oro resulted in a fight among the party attendees. Two men involved in the fight had to be transported to the hospital for treatment. Alcohol was a factor.

If you host a party in your residence, be aware you could be held responsible for your guests. If your party becomes a nuisance to your neighborhood, you could be subject to fines and criminal abatement. If people are injured or there is property damage, you could also be held responsible.

A known “Newhall 13” gang member was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 12, on Pine Street for a felony assault charge involving a knife.

Saugus Crime

This week we had 7 Part-1 crimes reported in the Saugus area. The first was an assault with a deadly weapon in the 22100 block of Empino Lane on Feb. 16. A man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his roommate after an altercation.

We had a residential burglary in the 22400 block of Claremont Drive on Feb. 11. The victim came home and discovered her window was smashed. After checking the house she found that jewelry and other miscellaneous items were taken. Santa Clarita detectives are actively working the case.

A second residential burglary was reported in the 28700 block of Mauch Street between Feb. 7 and 11. A realtor discovered that fixtures were stolen from a vacant house she was showing.

There was a vehicle stolen in the 20300 block of Jay Carroll Drive in the early morning hours of Feb. 15. The victim discovered that his Datsun was stolen from the street in front of his residence overnight. Santa Clarita deputies are searching for the vehicle.

There was a theft from an unlocked vehicle in the 22000 block of Kristin Lane between Feb. 4 and 10. The victim found her trunk open in the morning. After checking her vehicle she discovered some high dollar jewelry and personal property had been taken.

We had a shoplift burglary from Albertsons on Copper Hill Drive on Feb. 10. A male was seen stealing multiple bottles of alcohol before fleeing the location. Detectives are following up on suspect information.

The last reported crime was a petty theft from a residence in the 28400 block of Santa Catarina Road on Feb. 12. A renter stole miscellaneous items when he moved from the location. Detectives are attempting to locate the suspect.

There were multiple arrests made in Saugus over the past week. The arrests were for assault and narcotics.

Stevenson Ranch/Westridge Crime

Last week, the following Part 1 crimes occurred in Zone 3 Stevenson Ranch:

(1) Commercial Burglary, (4) Shoplift and (1) Petty Theft/Vehicle

A commercial burglary occurred near the 25400 block of The Old Road. A female suspect entered the pharmacy of the location and attempted to pass forged prescriptions as her own. The suspect was detained by loss prevention personnel and arrested by responding deputies.

There were four incidents of shoplifting near the 25400 block of The Old Road. The four incidents resulted in four arrests.

A petty theft from a vehicle was reported near the 25100 block of The Old Road. An unknown suspect took two batteries from underneath a company truck that was parked in a business parking lot. The incident occurred between Jan. 4 and Feb. 12.

Valencia Crime

Zone 5-Valencia had eleven Part-1 Crimes reported during the past week. The criminal incidents included burglaries and numerous petty thefts from various areas.

Two burglaries occurred on the same day at different gym locations. One occurred at LA Fitness and the other at Gold’s Gym, both between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m. Both victims reported placing their personal belongings in the men’s locker room area while using the gym. When they returned, their locks had been cut or tampered with. Items stolen were wallets, keys and other personal belongings.

If you are using lockers in a gym, make sure to use durable locks. Combo style locks tend to be the ones easily tampered with. Make sure you lock your lockers before exiting the locker room. If you see something suspicious, report it immediately.

Continue to keep theft down. Take careful steps to not become a victim. Be mindful of your surroundings. Do not leave personal items unattended in public areas, such as restaurants, shopping carts or counter tops of businesses.

Do not leave items visible in your vehicle. Take all personal belongings with you when you exit your vehicle or secure items in locked trunks. Do not leave items underneath vehicle seats or cover them with clothing apparel or blankets. Thieves know this technique. Remember to roll up all windows and lock doors before walking away from your vehicle.

There were multiple arrests made this past week by proactive Santa Clarita Deputies assigned to the Valencia area. Arrests included, drunk in public, possession of narcotics and shoplifting from local businesses.
