“He was going down the road and a deputy spotted him, he was going around 100 mph,” said Lt. Mark Hershey of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “The deputy pulled him over, the deputy looked at him and he just took off, and then he crashed about a minute later.”Santa Clarita Sheriff's Station Deputies investigate a crash scene Wednesday

The traffic stop reportedly took place near Sierra Highway and Soledad Canyon Road, and the crash took place near Soledad Canyon and Camp Plenty roads, just outside the KHTS AM-1220 office.

Eddie Lopez, 33, of Santa Clarita, was taken to the hospital after the crash, and a deputy followed the ambulance.

The incident is under investigation as a possible stolen vehicle incident, although no arrest has been made at this time, officials said.

“We didn’t go in pursuit,” Hershey said, citing safety factors associated with the situation and the suspect’s speed. “The deputy did the right thing. (The driver) hit the curb or center divider and crashed after he took off.”

The driver was suspected of being in possession of methamphetamine, according to Sheriff’s Station officials.

The extent of his injuries is not known at this time, according to Sheriff’s Station official.
