Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies with the Crime Prevention Unit recently cautioned residents of the nearby Fair Oaks Homeowners Association about a series of thefts in which cars were unlocked.

A different series of thefts were reported to KHTS AM-1220 by Sand Canyon HOA officials Friday, who wanted residents to be especially careful about locking up their vehicles and leaving valuables out of sight to deter theft.

Not speaking specifically to these incidents, these types of break-ins typically occur when people leave valuables showing in their vehicle and leave them unlocked, said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, in November.

“You’d be surprised how often this happens, but individuals leave valuable items in plain sight all the time,” Dubin stated in a November Nixle report. “If you leave items in your vehicle and they’re visible, the chances your vehicle will get broken into, increase greatly.”
