Santa Clarita Deputies Release Nixle Crime Reports For 01/06-01/12

The weekly crime reports from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station have been released. Last week's crimes are listed in alphabetical order by community for Canyon Country, Castaic, Newhall, Saugus, Stevenson Ranch and Valencia.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station has issued a warning to customers and businesses buying gift cards, especially those who bought or received gift cards during the holidays. Treat gift cards with the same caution as cash to prevent them from being stolen and resold.

There were several other notable incidents and court cases related to the SCV this week.

The victim of a fatal stabbing in Canyon Country on Friday night, was identified as 25-year-old Jose Eduardo Ocampo. No arrests have been made, but the incident is being investigated as gang-related.

A local missing woman, Nicollette Amber Lucia, 26, was found by the Las Vegas Police Department after the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department launched a search on Monday.

Local deputies and and Porsche officials met on Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss evidence in the fatal Paul Walker-Roger Rodas crash. The Sheriff’s Station report is expected to be completed soon.

Deputies responded to reports of a man in psychological distress on Thursday. The man was threatening to jump off a cliff near Sierra Highway and Newhall Avenue, but was talked down by deputies and taken to the hospital.

Lance Holger Anderson, 60, of Canyon Country, pleaded not guilty to two murders on Monday. He is charged with the murder of his wife and sister in December and face the death penalty if convicted.

Kristi Lynn Henderson, 49, was charged with arson in connection with a Jan. 1 residential fire and will face a preliminary hearing on Jan. 30.

Pilar Abalos, 44, of Poway, who is charged with identity theft from victims in the SCV and greater Southern California area, pleaded no contest on Wednesday and is expected to receive a three-year suspended sentence in state prison.

Last week’s crime reports are listed below, in alphabetical order by community.

Canyon Country east

Last week, the following Part 1 crimes occurred in Canyon Country east:

A strong arm robbery occurred near the 18300 block of Soledad Canyon Road. In this incident a suspect attempted to take the victims van while it was parked in front of a building. The victim saw the suspect in her van tampering with the ignition. She approached the suspect and attempted to hold him down until deputies arrived but was unable to. The victim was able to take the suspects wallet out of his pocket which contained the suspects identification. Deputies later arrested the suspect for robbery and attempted grand theft auto.   

A grand theft occurred at the Robinson Ranch golf course. The victim was the DJ at a party at the location. While he was loading his equipment into his vehicle a suspect took his sound mixer from his trunk. The item was worth several thousand dollars.

A residential burglary was reported near the 26000 block of Brant Way. In this incident suspect(s) broke into the victim’s home and vandalized it. The suspect(s) damaged appliances the tile floor and spray painted on every wall of the house with black and gold paint. There was several thousand dollars’ worth of damage to the home.

There was a murder near the 18000 block of Sundowner Way. This incident appeared to be gang-related and is currently being investigated by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau. If you have any information regarding this incident call 800-222-TIPS.

Canyon Country west

There were 15 reported Part One crimes in Zone 7: (3) Aggravated Assaults, (1) Robbery, (5) Commercial Burglaries, (4) Larcenies, (2) Grand Theft Autos

An assault with a deadly weapon occurred near the intersection of Langside Avenue and Soledad Canyon Road. Two suspects approached two men while walking and began striking them with a bat and a wrench. Both victims required hospitalization.

An aggravated assault occurred near 27000 block of Crossglade Avenue. The suspect punched the victim over a family dispute causing significant injury.

A strong arm robbery occurred near 26900 block of Sierra Highway. The suspect asked the victim if she had change for a one hundred dollar bill. As the victim was counting her money, the suspect grabbed the money and ran off.

A commercial burglary occurred near 20700 block of Centre Pointe Parkway. Suspect pried open the entry door and stole $110 in U.S. currency from a safe within. The suspect also vandalized the vending machine within the business.

Castaic/Val Verde

There were eight Part 1 Crimes in Zone 2.

Three residential burglaries were reported this last week. A house on Lincoln Avenue had jewelry stolen: entry was made through a bedroom window. A house off of Hasley Canyon had jewelry and silver coins stolen from the master bedroom; entry was made through an unlocked rear door. An attempt burglary occurred off of Lincoln Avenue. The suspect was breaking through the front window when he was confronted by an armed homeowner. The suspect fled on foot and containment was established by responding deputies. The suspect is still outstanding.

There were four reported thefts. A blue Yamaha generator was stolen off of a porch on Victoria Road. A red BMX style bicycle was taken from the porch of a house on Ridge Route Road. An industrial electrical box was stolen from a construction site off of Hwy 126 and Chiquito Canyon.  A vehicle in Castaic had personal items stolen from inside.

There was on reported aggravated assault on Oakhill Court in Castaic. The homeowner was attacked by a friend of his son’s. The suspect swung a crow bar at the victim striking him in the arm. The wife called 911 and the suspect fled. Responding deputies located the suspect and transported him to Santa Clarita station where he was booked on assault charges.     

Newhall

A look back at the crimes reported in the Newhall area last week.

Sometime between Dec. 12 and Jan. 9, a bicycle was stolen from the parking area of an apartment complex in the 24900 block of Walnut Street.

On Friday, Jan. 10 at 2:45 a.m., a sliding glass door on the Newhall library was shattered.

On Thursday, Jan. 9, a 1994 Honda Accord was stolen from the apartments in the 24400 block of Lyons Avenue. The vehicle is still outstanding.

Between Sunday, Jan. 5 and Monday, Jan. 6, a vehicle was burglarized in the 23400 block of Newhall Avenue. The lock was pried on the bed cover and 2 big screen TV’s were stolen.

On Jan. 9, proactive deputies patrolling the Newhall area conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a code violation. The deputies discovered the driver was on probation for narcotics and, upon further investigation, arrested the 43-year-old driver for possession of narcotics.

Saugus

We had a rise in reported Part-1 crimes over the past week. There was an assault from the 27100 block of Garza Drive on January 8th. After being involved in an argument the victim’s wife assaulted him. Deputies responded and arrested the wife without incident.

A theft occurred from the 22800 block of Soledad Canyon on January 10th. The victim discovered that someone had entered the victim’s office and stole his phone and other personal property.

There were two incidents that occurred on Laroda Lane over the past week. The first was a vehicle burglary on January 7th where the victim discovered his vehicle’s window was smashed and personal items were stolen. The second crime was a theft from an unlocked vehicle on January 9th. The victim discovered items missing from her vehicle which were taken overnight. Detectives are following up on leads in both incidents.

A shoplift theft was reported at CVS on Bouquet Canyon Road on January 6th. A store employee witnessed a male run out of the store with numerous items. A search of the area was conducted however, the suspect was not located.

There were multiple arrests over the past week. The arrests include assault, theft and narcotics.

Stevenson Ranch/Westridge

Last week, the following Part 1 crimes occurred in Zone 3 Stevenson Ranch:

(1) Robbery, (1) Vehicle Burglary and (4) Shoplift.

A strong arm robbery occurred near the 25400 block of The Old Road. A male suspect fought with loss prevention personnel as they attempted to detain him for shoplifting. The suspect fled the location in a white Honda Accord. The case is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Station detectives.

A vehicle burglary occurred near the 25300 block of Chiquella Lane. An unknown suspect shattered the rear passenger window of the victim’s vehicle. The suspect then entered the trunk through the rear seat and took two suitcases and a laptop computer.

A shoplift/burglary occurred near the 25400 block of The Old Road. Loss prevention personnel detained two female juveniles when they exited the location, failing to pay for several items. The juveniles were subsequently detained and transported to the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s station by responding deputies.

A shoplift/burglary occurred near the 24900 block of Pico Canyon Road. A female suspect exited the location, failing to pay for two women’s purses. The suspect was seen leaving the location in a white Toyota Yaris. The case is under investigation by Santa Clarita Station detectives.

A petty theft/shoplift occurred near the 25600 block of The Old Road. A male suspect exited the location, failing to pay for a shopping bag filled with clothes. The suspect left the location in a lowered black GMC Sierra pickup truck.

A petty theft/shoplift occurred near the 25400 block of The Old Road. Loss prevention personnel flagged down deputies driving through the parking lot and directed them to the suspect. After determining a crime had in fact occurred, the deputies arrested the suspect.

Valencia

Zone 5-Valencia had fourteen Part-1 Crimes reported during the past week. The criminal incidents included a battery on a person, residential/vehicle burglaries and shoplifting from local businesses.

A battery on a person occurred on the 24400 block of Town Center Drive. A fight occurred between two juveniles resulting in the victim hitting his head on the ground. The victim was treated for his injury and a male suspect and subject were arrested in connection with this incident.

A residential burglary occurred on the 24100 block of Del Monte Drive between the hours of 9 p.m. and 10 a.m. The items stolen were two bicycles from an underground parking structure. Both bicycles were locked and chained. This is the second report documented in this area for bike theft. Please use caution and be cognizant of your surroundings when securing your bicycles. Keep the serial number of your bicycle on file in the event that it is stolen to aid in its recovery. If you see any suspicious activity, call the Sheriff’s Station immediately at 661-255-1121.

There were three vehicle burglaries that occurred in various areas of Valencia this past week during the early morning hours. The victims reported that their passenger window had been smashed by an unknown object. Items stolen were a cell phone and iPod which were located in the back seat or center console area of the vehicles.
