First Crime Reports Are In For Santa Clarita Valley, June 2 – June 8

The crime reports have come in for June 2-8 in Canyon Country, Castaic, Gorman, Saugus and Stevenson Ranch. 

This week, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies and CHP officers made multiple arrests and dealt with a toxic chemical spill. Several local suspects also appeared in court.

Crime RepotsCHP officers screened 337 cars, made one DUI arrest and cited two unlicensed drivers at a DUI checkpoint near the intersection of Sand Canyon Road and Sierra Highway Friday night.

Deputies and Los Angeles County Fire personnel rescued a woman who had become trapped in her vehicle after she drove over the side of Vasquez Canyon Road. The car was totalled, but the victim wasn’t seriously hurt.

The Sheriff’s Department announced Tuesday that the Special Victims Bureau had arrested three child predators during a sting. One was a Santa Clarita resident, arrested on May 14.

Deputies and HazMat officials responded to a toxic spill on I-5 near Highway 126 Tuesday morning, when a big rig overturned and leaked corrosive sodium hydrosulfide onto the road.

Cory Allen Flenory, 27, of Valencia, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to counts of mayhem, vandalism and assault with a deadly weapon in connection with a road rage attack. He could face up to life in prison.

Deputies were called out to the Valencia Elephant Bar Tuesday evening, because the management was worried that employees would become unruly as the restaurant closed for good. No crimes were committed and the deputies left within 20 minutes.

A Sun Valley man was killed shortly after midnight Thursday after his big rig crashed into a Lincoln Towncar on Interstate 5, north of the Santa Clarita Valley. The truck driver has not been identified.

A deputy was involved in a brief altercation Thursday morning, when an individual did not have valid fare on Santa Clarita-bound Metrolink train. The suspect was not arrested but could be booked on fare evasion.

Valencia resident Yale Yurman, 73, a previously convicted sex offender, could face life in prison for allegedly filming children without their permission. His trial is scheduled to start in July.

Dino Guglielmelli, 53, of Canyon Country, took a no contest plea deal Friday for a 9-year sentence in state prison. He is accused of trying to pay someone to murder his wife.

Deputies have released the crime reports for June 2-8 in Canyon Country, Castaic, Saugus and Stevenson Ranch. KHTS publishes crime reports as they are made available.

Canyon Country Crime – east

There was a grand theft auto reported near the 28700 block of Macklin Avenue. In this incident the victim’s 2013 Dodge Ram was stolen from the street. This vehicle has not been recovered.

A residential burglary was reported near the 15700 block of Beaver Run. The victim found his garage door open in the morning. He also noticed that his car had been ransacked and several items were missing.

There was an additional residential burglary reported near the 27000 block of Karns Court. In this incident the victim found that her garage door was forced open. She found that sporting goods and power tools were missing from the location.

An attempted burglary was reported near the 14600 block of Hydrangea Way. In this incident the victim came home and found his rear sliding glass door jamb was damaged. The suspect never made entry into the victim’s house.  

Canyon Country Crime – west

This past week in Zone 7, the following Part-1 Crimes occurred:

An assault with a deadly weapon occurred in a housing tract near the intersection of Golden Valley Road and State Route 14. While the victim was at a house party he got into a verbal altercation with numerous party goers. The altercation became heated and the victim was struck multiple times by numerous people. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A grand theft occurred near the 18600 block of Via Princessa. The victim left her vehicle unlocked and an unknown suspect entered her vehicle and stole her camera.  This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A petty theft occurred near the 27400 block of Dewdrop Avenue. The suspect stole the victim’s skateboard from his front lawn. The suspect was later arrested.  This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

Castaic/Val Verde Crime

The following crimes were reported in Zone 2, Castaic/Val Verde.

A work truck parked in 2800 block of Avenue Penn was burglarized. Suspects broke open the utility box in the bed of the truck and stole miscellaneous tools.

A liquor store on San Martinez Road reported a theft of “Four Loko” beers. A couple in their early twenties put the items in the female’s purse and left without paying.

A building on Morningside Drive was burglarized. Suspects cut the locks to the outside storage container and rummaged through the contents. The owner reported the pry marks on the door to the building as well.       

Gorman/Neenach Crime

One hundred gallons of fuel were taken from a semi truck tractor at a local truck stop.

The cash register and cash were taken from a restaurant in Gorman.

The copper internals were stolen from the A/C unit outside a vacant residence in the Neenach area.

Saugus Crime

The following crimes were reported in the Saugus area over the past week.

There was a residential burglary in the 29200 block of Las Brisas Road on June 5. Deputies responded to an audible alarm call and discovered the house had been burglarized. After speaking to the victim they learned that the he was only out for a short period of time. It is unknown what was taken at this time. Detectives are working the case.

There was an assault at a local bar on the corner of Bouquet Canyon Road and Soledad Canyon Road on June 7. A patron was assaulted in the parking lot after leaving the establishment. Detectives are following up on leads in the case.

There were two vehicle burglaries reported over the past week. The first occurred in the 27900 block of Milliken Drive on June 2. A witness observed a male burglarize the victim’s vehicle, stealing miscellaneous items from the back seat area. The second vehicle burglary occurred near the corner of Oxford Lane and Stratford Drive on June 7. The victim discovered that person(s) unknown shattered the front passenger window and stole a purse that was left on the passenger seat. Detectives are searching for the suspect and the property taken in each incident.

A theft from an unlocked vehicle was reported in the 29100 block of Singing Woods Drive between June 4 and June 5. The victim had a phone stolen from his cup holder overnight. The phone was in left in plain view.

There were multiple arrests made over the past week in the Saugus area. The arrests include possession of narcotics, DUI and outstanding warrants.

Stevenson Ranch/Westridge Crime

Last week, the following Part 1 crime occurred in Zone 3 Stevenson Ranch.

A robbery occurred near the intersection of Stevenson Ranch Parkway and The Old Road. The victim took a taxi home from a nightclub and when the victim was exiting the taxi, the driver produced a firearm and demanded the victim’s money. The suspect then drove off out of view.

A commercial burglary occurred near the 25200 block of The Old Road. An unknown suspect shattered the front glass window of the location with a rock. Upon entering the location, the suspect took a cash register.

A vehicle burglary occurred near the 25300 block of The Old Road. Several electronic items were taken from the vehicle’s trunk. There was no evidence of forced entry.

There were four incidents of shoplifting in the Stevenson Ranch area. The incidents resulted in four arrests.

A grand theft occurred near the intersection of Commerce Center Drive and Henry Mayo Drive. An unknown suspect took several feet of copper wire from a construction site.
