The checkpoint is scheduled for Friday, starting at 6:30 p.m. and will remain in effect until 2:30 a.m. the following morning.

Officers will announce the location just prior to the checkpoint opening and set up signs to direct motorists through the checkpoint.

The process is only expected to take a few minutes per car, according to a CHP press release, and during heavy traffic cars will be stopped based on a pre-set standard, such as every fifth or 10th car.

About CHP Sobriety Checkpoints

The goal of the DUI Checkpoint is to create awareness, deter people from driving under the influence and keep the streets safe for all. Sobriety checkpoints are conducted in accordance to the guidelines for checkpoint operations outlined in the Supreme Court decision, Ingersol vs. Palmer.

Although checkpoints tend to reduce the number of drinking drivers on the road, the CHP will apprehend DUI drivers who fail to heed their warnings.
