Crime Reports Released By Santa Clarita Valley Deputies For 12/09-12/18

With holiday shopping thefts still an issue, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies urgently remind everyone to be careful and use good judgement while shopping. There were several additional investigations and court cases this week.

Deputies are investigating the theft of approximately 100 Christmas trees from Green Thumb Nursery in Newhall. The trees were stolen between Dec. 6 and 8 and the total value exceeded $3,000.

The Sheriff’s Department and with several other county officials reported to the county Board of Supervisors on Tuesday on the effects of Assembly Bill 109 and prison realignment, including the percentage of rearrests and the types of crimes comitted by AB 109 offenders.

Traffic investigators with the Sheriff’s Department will meet with engineers from Porshe to analyze the data retrival system in the Porshe driven by Roger Rodas and Paul Walker, as part of the crash investigation.

Holiday shoppers who bought someting from Target between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15 should be wary. The Target Corporation announced Thursday that they were aware of unauthorized access to the company’s payment card data, compromising as many as 40 million credit or debit accounts.

Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station are holding a DUI checkpoint on Friday within city limits, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. The last DUI checkpoint in September netted four arrests.

Two suspects with Santa Clarita ties had court dates this week.

Dino Roy Guglielmelli, 52, of Canyon Country, pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to the charge that solicited his wife’s murder. He is being held in lieu of $10 million bail. He is due back in court on Jan. 6.

Bradford E. Pate, 38, of Burbank, had a preliminary hearing date selected on Wednesday. He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 13. Pate is charged with two counts of murder in a wrong-way DUI collision in June.

Last week’s crime reports are listed below, in alphabetical order by community.

 

Canyon Country east

Last week, the following Part 1 crimes occurred in Canyon Country East:

(3) Residential Burglaries, (1) Shoplifting, (2) Commercial Burglary, (2) Robberies, (2) Grand Theft Autos, (2) Assaults, (3) Vehicle Burglaries.  

During the past week there were several part 1 crimes reported in Zone 8. There were 3 residential burglaries reported. The first incident was reported near the 27000 block of Fahren Court. In this incident the victim left her home for 30 minutes and upon her return she found her front door open and several electronic devices missing from inside. There were no signs of forced entry into this location. Another incident was reported near 28000 Winterdale Drive. In this incident the suspect(s) forced open the victim’s garage access door and made entry into the house. The suspect stole a flat screen television and a laptop computer.

There were two Grand Theft Autos reported last week. One of the incidents was reported at Jason Drive and Oak Canyon Road. A silver 2007 Toyota Tacoma was stolen and has not been located. A 2007 Toyota Sienna was stolen near the 17600 block of Gladsworth Way. The vehicle was later recovered at the intersection of Jakes Way and Daniel Drive.

A strong armed robbery was reported at Solamint Road and Soledad Canyon Road. In this incident a male suspect ripped the purse off the shoulder of a female who was walking on Solamint Road. The victim was injured during the incident and treated by the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The suspect left the location in a black coupe. There were no other details regarding the suspect in this incident.   

There have been several thefts from vehicles in the “Fair Oaks Ranch” area. In these incidents the suspect(s) are walking through the neighborhood and checking door handles to find unlocked vehicles. The suspect will rummage through the glove box and center console of the vehicles and take items such as currency and electronic devices. People should always remember to lock their car doors when they park them to avoid incidents like these.      

 

Canyon Country west

This past week in Zone 7, the following Part-1 Crimes occurred:

(1) Murder, (1) Robbery, (2) Residential Burglaries, (1) Commercial Burglary, (3) Vehicle Burglaries, (3) Theft From Unlocked Vehicles, (2) Petty Thefts, (1) Shoplift and (1) GTA.

A murder occurred near the 26800 block of Claudette Street when a female victim was shot at the location. A male suspect was arrested in North Hills by LAPD after shooting a second female. The case is currently under investigation by The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau.

An armed robbery occurred near the 19300 block of Soledad Canyon Road. Two male suspects produced a firearm and demanded money from workers at a recycling center. After a short struggle, one victim was able to wrestle a firearm away from one of the suspects. During the course of the investigation, one male suspect was arrested.

A residential burglary occurred near the 28000 block of Langside Avenue. An unknown suspect entered the victim’s residence and took approximately $10,000 dollars.

A residential burglary occurred near the 19400 block of Stillmore Street. An unknown suspect shattered a front window to the residence and, upon entering, took a checkbook.

There were several vehicle burglaries/thefts from unlocked vehicles near the 20400 block of Soledad Canyon Road. An arrest was made during one incident and the case is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Station C.O.B.R.A. Detectives.

A vehicle burglary occurred near the 26400 block of Carl Boyer Drive. An unknown suspect shattered a rear window of the vehicle and took a gym bag containing approximately $92,000 from the back seat.

A gym locker burglary occurred at the 24 Hour Fitness located at 18645 Via Princessa. The victim locked her belongings in a locker prior to working out and upon returning, noticed her lock and wallet were missing. The victim’s credit cards were also used at local businesses.

A petty theft/shoplift occurred near the 18600 block of Via Princessa. A female suspect was detained by loss prevention personnel after walking out of the location, failing to pay for several items. The suspect was arrested by responding deputies.

A 1994 Acura Integra was stolen near the 14 Freeway and Golden Valley Road. The vehicle was recovered the next day in the San Fernando Valley. A suspect was arrested.

 

Castaic/Val Verde

There were five Part 1 Crimes in Zone 2.

One residential burglary was reported on Chiquito Canyon Road in Val Verde. A resident’s window was pried half open in an attempt to gain entry. The homeowner had placed a stick in the window rail preventing the suspect from getting the window open enough to climb through. No items were reported missing from the residence.

There was one stolen vehicle in Castaic. A local resident stole a golf cart from the Senior Center on Castaic Road. An employee from the complex saw the golf cart parked at a neighboring location and reported it to the Sheriff station. Responding deputies found the suspect driving the cart and detained him pending an investigation. The suspect was arrested and the golf cart returned to the rightful owner.

A theft from a vehicle was reported in Val Verde. A resident was woken by a noise in her front yard at 2 a.m. She looked out her bedroom window and saw someone standing at the rear of their vehicle in the driveway. The suspect broke the window of the vehicle and reached inside.  When the homeowner ran outside the suspect rode away on a bicycle.  No items were taken from the vehicle.

Two petty thefts were reported in Castaic. After running errands all day, a local resident was missing some of her belongings from inside her vehicle. She believes the items were taken from her open vehicle window while parked at one of her stops. While making donations at a local center, a female set her purse down to unload her vehicle. After getting home and realizing she had forgotten her purse, she returned to find it was gone.          

 

Gorman/Neenach

Once again, during the above dates, Zone 1 had no (0) reported part one crime.

Continue to be diligent and report all crimes as well as reporting anything suspicious in the area.

Deputies have been told by several area residents that a white, 80’s full size Bronco or Blazer has been seen driving around the neighborhood with no apparent reason or purpose, possibly casing the area for theft etc. There are several homes in the area that are in foreclosure, which makes them popular targets for thieves.   

 

Newhall

A look back at the crimes reported in the Newhall area last week shows a slight increase.

Two purses were stolen. One on Monday, Dec. 9 at 4 a.m., in a parking lot of an apartment complex in the 24800 block of Walnut Avenue, and one on Lyon’s Avenue near Arcadia Street. The victims described the suspects as a male and female in their 20’s, driving a late model, gray, four-door sedan.

There were four residential burglaries reported in the following areas, the 24500 Pepperidge Drive, the 23800 block of Oakhurst Drive, the 23700 block of Silverado and one in the 24800 block of Walnut Street.

Residents should lock their doors and windows when they leave every day. Set timers for the lights. Arrange for friends or family to check the house while you are on vacation. Stop the mail and newspaper while you are away. Give a neighbor emergency contact numbers. Take precautions to prevent crime.

There were two vehicles broke in to. One in the 24600 block of Wiley Canyon and the other in the 24800 block of Railroad Avenue.

Five additional thefts occurred during the week. A television was stolen from an unlocked shed in the 23400 block of Newhall Avenue. Christmas trees were stolen from the Green Thumb Nursery at 23734 Newhall Avenue. A cargo trailer was stolen from Sierra Highway, north of Newhall Avenue. A bicycle was stolen from the 23300 block of Lyons Avenue.

 

Saugus

Over the past week there were three reported Part-1 crimes. The first was a petty theft in the 21900 block of Peppercorn Drive between Dec. 9 and Dec. 14. The homeowner was having work done in the house when some of her personal property went missing.

The second reported crime was a petty theft from Saugus High School on Dec. 12. One of the facility members discovered her wallet had been stolen from her purse. After an investigation the School Resource Deputy located the student who stole the wallet and arrested him without incident.

There was a shoplift theft from Best Buy on Dec. 15. A female stole a prepaid phone from the store. She was detained by security as she exited the store. The female was taken into custody without incident.

There were multiple arrests over the past week. The arrests include child neglect, domestic violence, criminal threats, assault, vandalism and narcotics.

 

Stevenson Ranch/Westridge

During the above dates Zone 3 had six reported part one crimes. Here are some details regarding some of the crimes:

There was a grand theft reported from the Chevron gas station located at 29070 The Old Road. While the victim was pumping gas and had her back turned an unknown suspect(s) entered her vehicle and stole items. The investigation is on-going (ref -16883).

A purse was reported stolen from the 25200 block of The Old Road. The victim left her purse unattended for a few moments and an unknown suspect(s) allegedly stole it (ref -16870).

A petty theft was reported from the Walmart on The Old Road. A 32 year old female was arrested (ref -16816).

A 1988 Toyota pickup truck was reported stolen from the 25300 block of The Old Road. The vehicle has not yet been located (ref -16794).

A vehicle burglary was reported from the 25200 block of The Old Road. The victim stated a suspect(s) broke into her locked vehicle and stole her purse and the items it contained. The purse was on the passenger seat of the car. The car was parked in the parking lot of the location (ref -16924).

 

Valencia

Zone 5-Valencia had twelve Part-1 Crimes reported during the past week. The criminal incidents included robbery, an attempt burglary, vehicle burglaries, theft from an unlocked vehicle, and shoplifting from local businesses.

A robbery occurred on the 23500 block of Newhall Ranch Road at 10 p.m. The victim was approached by the suspect who demanded to see his bike. When the victim told the suspect no, the suspect became angry and hit the victim in the head with his fist. The suspect took off with the victim’s bike in an unknown direction. The victim was not injured during the incident and the investigation is ongoing.

An attempt burglary occurred on the 23400 block of Winslow Place. Suspect(s) unknown attempted to gain access into the home by removing the screens off the windows. The alarm on the home was activated so no entry was made.

Two vehicle burglaries occurred on the 24000 block of Magic Mountain Parkway between the hours of 9:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. Both vehicles had their driver’s side window smashed by an unknown object. Items stolen were clothing and snowboard equipment. All items were left in the backseat area visible from outside of the vehicles.

A theft from an unlocked vehicle occurred on the 28000 block of Newhall Ranch Road between the hours of 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. The victim left the vehicle unlocked. The item stolen was a book bag containing a Mac Book tablet which was on the floor board of the front seat area.

With holiday shopping here, deputies urge everyone to please take careful steps to not become a victim. If you are shopping at night, try and park your vehicles in well-lit areas. Be mindful of your surroundings. Take personal belongings with you when you exit your vehicle or secure items in locked trunks. Remember to roll up all windows and lock doors before walking away from your vehicle. Do not leave valuables such as purses, wallets or cell phones unattended in public areas like shopping carts, benches or counters.

If you see any suspicious activity, please call the Sheriff’s Station immediately at 661-255-1121. There were multiple arrests made this past week by proactive Santa Clarita Deputies assigned to the Valencia area. Arrests included grand theft, drunk in public, and shoplifting from local businesses.
