It was a busy week for law enforcement in the Santa Clarita Valley, with several investigations that led to arrests for both the Sheriff’s Station and the Highway Patrol.

Deputies and county public health officials investigated more than 30 street vendors in the Santa Clarita Valley last week to make sure they were in compliance with applicable laws. Ten illegal food carts were confiscated.

Deputies are investigating a Saturday night crash on Newhall Ranch Road that involved five high school girls and left two seriously injured.

CHP officers arrested two suspects for alleged illegal street racing and impounded two cars Sunday, as part of an undercover investigation into an illegal car club on Bouquet Canyon Road.

The Sheriff’s Station staged an active shooter training drill at Westfield Valencia Town Center Sunday evening. About 200 personnel and volunteers took part in the simulation.

The Sheriff’s Department released a Nixle report on Monday, remembering the death of Newhall Constable Jack Pilcher in 1925. He was killed in a shooting accident while on duty.

Kevin James King, 38, a suspected member of the Vagos biker gang, was arrested by deputies Monday in connection with a stabbing that took place at The Vu bar in April.

City officials put out a notice for community feedback this week on a $26,700 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice that would fund law enforcement and crime prevention in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The California Highway Patrol announced a DUI Checkpoint for Friday evening between 6:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. in the unincorporated area of the Santa Clarita Valley.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies have released the crime reports for May 26 through June 1 in Canyon Country, Castaic, Newhall, Saugus, Stevenson Ranch and Valencia. KHTS publishes crime reports as they are made available.

Canyon Country Crime – east

There was a robbery reported on the bike path near the 18400 block of Soledad Canyon Road. In this incident the male suspect told the victim to give him his money. The victim told the suspect that he had no money so the suspect used the handle of a handgun to hit the victim on his head causing him to fall to the ground. This case is being investigated by Santa Clarita Station detectives.

An assault with a deadly weapon occurred near the 18300 block of Jakes Way. In this incident two male black suspects approached to male Hispanic victims. The suspects began to assault the victims and use racial slurs as they were attacking the victims. The suspects were later arrested by deputies.

A “purse snatch” robbery occurred at the intersection of Jakes Way/Sandy Drive. In this incident the female victim was walking down the street when a male suspect approached her from behind. The suspect pulled her purse off her shoulder and ran away with her purse. The suspect was located a short time later hiding underneath the 14 freeway near Evi Lane.

A commercial burglary was reported at Los Angeles County Fire Station 123 on Sand Canyon Road. In this incident an unknown suspect entered the fire station and stole a firefighter’s wallet from the locker area of the station. This case is being investigated by station detectives.

Canyon Country Crime – west

This past week in Zone 7, the following Part-1 Crimes occurred.

A residential burglary occurred near the 19700 block of Koji Court. The suspect shattered the rear sliding glass door and ransacked the inside of the residence. The victim stated nothing was taken. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A residential burglary occurred near the 28400 block of Falcon Crest Drive. The suspect shattered the rear sliding glass door and rummaged through a chest inside the master bedroom. The victim stated nothing else was moved or taken. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A residential burglary occurred near the 18900 block of Claycrest Drive. The victim observed an unknown person inside her residence while monitoring surveillance footage on her cell phone. She called the Sheriff’s Department and the suspect was arrested without further incident a short distance from the residence.  This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A petty theft from an unlocked vehicle occurred near the 26800 block of Sierra Highway. The suspect entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and stole her cell phone from her center console.  This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.   

Castaic/Val Verde Crime

The following crimes were reported in Zone 2, Castaic/Val Verde.

A 1992 brown four-door Honda Accord was stolen from Castaic Road. A 17-foot Univar trailer was stolen from Industry Drive.    

A resident on Applewood Lane had several items taken from her unlocked vehicle parked in her driveway. All the items were found in a neighbor’s yard and returned to the victim.

Two separate teachers at a school on Hasley Canyon reported their purses stolen from the classroom during school hours.

A business on Livingston Avenue had vehicle batteries stolen from four trucks parked in their parking lot over the weekend.

A resident on Green Hill Court reported his Marlin .22 rifle stolen from his room. The victim rents a room in the house and is not sure when in the last four months the gun was taken.

There was a burglary reported in Val Verde. A resident on Huntstock Street reported a Fender guitar and amp taken from his house. The suspects broke the front sliding door window of the house to gain entry.

A dry cleaner on Castaic Road had $50 cash taken from the register drawer over the weekend. Deputies were called to the location for an “open door” call. After clearing the building, an employee responded and informed deputies that cash was missing from the register.    

Newhall Crime

A look back at the crimes reported in the Newhall area last week.

Between Monday, May 26 at 10 p.m. and Tuesday, May 27 at 7 a.m., a 2001 Ford F250 utility truck was stolen from Valle Del Oro near Dockweiler Drive. The truck has not been recovered yet.

Between Sunday, May 25 and Monday, May 26 a vehicle was burglarized in the 25000 block of Hawkbryn Avenue. A car stereo, a speaker box and a battery were stolen.

On Monday, May 26 a 30-year-old male was arrested in the 24300 block of Main Street for burglary.

Between Thursday, May 29 and Friday, May 30 a business was burglarized in the 23600 block of Lyons Avenue. A window was shattered and miscellaneous bottles of liquor were stolen.

On Tuesday, May 27 a 33-year-old male was arrested for petty theft of diesel fuel in the 23800 block of Pine Street. The male was later released on citation and will have to appear in court.

Saugus Crime

The following crimes were reported in the Saugus area over the past week.

There was a residential burglary in the 28900 block of Garnett Canyon Road on May 30 between 5 and 7:30 p.m. The victim stated she returned home from shopping and discovered multiple items missing from her residence. It was determined that entry was made through a possible unlocked window. Detectives are working the case.

A second residential burglary occurred in the 28600 block of Farrier Drive on May 26. The suspect was seen entering a garage and exiting with miscellaneous property. Deputies responded to the location and located the suspect a short distance away. The suspect was arrested without incident.

A vehicle was stolen from the 21400 block of Carol Sue Lane on May 28. An acquaintance of the victim took the vehicle without her consent. Deputies are actively searching for the suspect.

There were multiple arrests made over the past week in the Saugus area. The arrests include weapons charges, assault, burglary, narcotics and vandalism.

Stevenson Ranch/Westridge Crime

Last week, the following Part 1 crime occurred in Zone 3 Stevenson Ranch:

A residential burglary/GTA occurred near the 24800 block of Greensbrier Drive. A male and female suspect were arrested after they were located in a vehicle taken from the driveway of the residence. The suspects were also found in possession of several pieces of the victim’s property, as well as narcotics.

A residential burglary occurred near the 25300 block of The Old Road. An unknown suspect entered the victim’s residence and took a backpack and car keys. The suspect then took the victim’s 2008 Ford Focus from the parking garage of the location.

A grand theft occurred near the 26900 block of Peppertree Drive between February 2014 and May 2014. An unknown suspect took several U.S. Treasury bonds and a large amount of U.S. currency from the victim’s bedroom closet.

Two shoplift/burglaries occurred near the 25400 block of The Old Road. A male suspect was detained by loss prevention personnel after he concealed items in his pockets and exited the location. The suspect was arrested by responding deputies.

A second male suspect was arrested during a separate incident when he walked out of the location with a cart full of items.

A GTA occurred near the 25300 block of The Old Road. A male suspect was arrested for taking his girlfriend’s vehicle during an incident of domestic violence.

A GTA occurred near the near the 25700 block of Holiday Circle. A 2004 Ford Expedition was taken from the location.

Valencia Crime

During the past week, the criminal incidents reported in Valencia included, vehicle burglaries, theft from an unlocked vehicle and numerous shoplifting reports from local businesses.

There were two vehicle burglaries reported this past week. One occurred at the 25800 block of Estaban Drive between the hours of 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. There was no forced entry made to the vehicle. Items stolen were the victim’s purse from the floorboard and a GPS left in the center console area of the vehicle.

A second burglary occurred in a parking lot located at the 26900 block of Theater Drive between the hours of 7:30 and 10 p.m. Entry/exit was made by smashing the rear passenger window. The item stolen was the victim’s purse, which was also left on the front floorboard of the vehicle. All items stolen were visible from outside the vehicles.

A theft from an unlocked vehicle occurred on the 25700 block of Pancho Adobe Road between the hours of 5 and 7 p.m. Entry/exit was made via the driver side door as the lock was inoperable. Items stolen were a cell phone charger and owner’s manual to the vehicle.
