Creative Years Preschool Holds Snow Day For Summer Camp Students

Creative Years Infant Center and Preschool summer camp students celebrated “Winter in July” week with their annual Snow Day on Wednesday, where the children used colorful plastic shovels to dig or fill buckets with snow, built snowmen, rode a sled down a small dip in the snow and tossed snowballs. Summer camp students build a snowman.

Creative Years officials brought real snow to the school’s play yard and provided the shovels, buckets and sled for the children to play with.

“We do a weekly summer camp theme, so every week is a different theme,” said Cindy Lewis, one of the school’s owners. “This is the biggest week of the summer for us… It’s just exciting for them. They always look forward to (the snow).”

“I like playing in the snow and throwing snowballs,” said Hallie, 4.

Mason, 2, said his favorite thing about snow is, “It’s slippery,” while Trent, 2, said he liked making a snowman and “falling down.”

“We don’t take the kids out for field trips, we bring everything in,” Lewis said. “Since they’re so little, it’s more secure for them that way and they’re more comfortable being here.”

Newhall Ice Company provided the snow by churning up ice chunks and blowing it in a small section of the yard, she said.

Themed snacks for the week included fruit juice pops and slushies, and the children also had a chance to do “ice painting” and make snowmen out of shaving cream.

Other themes for the summer included “Space Camp,” where school officials provided space-themed  jumpers, and “Circus Week,” when animals were brought to the school.

Next on the agenda is “Dinosaur Week” and “Pirates and Princesses Week,” which Lewis described as a “big hit” with the kids.
