The county will add 32 acres to the Vasquez Rocks Natural Area, if the motion is approved by the board.

The current owners of the property, Irving H. Blank and Ronaye Boyle have agreed to sell the Property to the county for a total amount of $675,000.

“The property includes two blue line streams, two pristine canyons, riparian habitat, and a wildlife

corridor for a number of species, including mountain lion, mule deer, and bobcats,” according to board documents. “The acquisition of the property will expand the northern boundary of Vasquez Rocks Natural Area, and preserve open space for public nature education.”

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has asked the board to approve the purchase of an Emergency Mobile Command Post Vehicle, to be housed at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The vehicle and installed communications equipment is expected to cost about $275,000 and assist the SCV Station with pre-planned events and large scale emergencies.

“This MCP Vehicle will allow the station’s incident commander to be on scene during large events, emergent incidents or natural disasters,” according to board documents.

Though the mobile command vehicle will be parked at the SCV Station, it will be available to all Sheriff’s Stations in the county, in the event of an emergency like a wildfire.

Sheriff’s Department Contract

The board is also scheduled to vote on the municipal agreements between contract cities in the county and the Sheriff’s Department.

The motion was originally on last week’s agenda but was continued until Tuesday.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors only approves contracts for up to five years, said Capt. Rick Mouwen of the Sheriff’s Department’s Contract Law Enforcement Bureau, in a previous interview.

The new agreement with the city of Santa Clarita will be effective July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2019.
