Plastics make life easier and easier.

If you had a glass thermos and it shattered, you'd be drinking tap water for lunch.

And, remember how heavy and fragile most of the liquid containers you used to buy were.

Sure plastic is more convenient than glass, but what are the health risks associated with the convenience of wrapping most of our food and drink in plastic?

Many chemicals in plastics are known hormone disruptors, either directly or indirectly contributing to cancer and other common childhood diseases like asthma.

Documented health problems associated to the chemicals in plastics include:

• obesity,

• adult onset diabetes,

• early puberty,

• reproductive system abnormalities,

• hormonal imbalance,

• thyroid disruption,

• ADD/ADHD,

• neurological development disorders,

• allergies,

• increased risk of cancer.

Cancer rates continue to increase and in children under the age of 14, cancer is the No. 1 killer disease.

Toxic plastic exposure starts prenatally, since plastic poisons like BPA (bisphenol A) found in many of mom’s bottled waters can cross the placenta; and once baby is born, they are surrounded by plastic.

• Baby bottles,

• food containers,

• beverage containers,

• plastic dinnerware

often also contain some plastic poison.

Exposing plastic to heat like:

1. warming a plastic baby bottle

2. or a cup of soup, a microwave dinner for a mom that is breast feeding increases the toxic load.

Keeping plastic out of your family’s food chain may not be the easiest thing you’ve done this year, but it may be the most important step you can take in avoiding a catastrophic health crisis for someone you love.

If you want to see if you or your children have high levels of BPA, I recommend getting tested. A urine test can measure BPA levels and a qualified Functional Medicine Practitioner can recommend a detoxification program designed for your unique requirements.
