Concerts In The Park Annual Tradition Returns

The first event of the Concerts in the Park series, a yearly summer long tradition that features free concerts for local residents to enjoy, returned on July 6 at Central Park. It featured Queen Nation who played uncanny, spot-on renditions of hit singles from iconic British rock band Queen.

The summer air was filled with wonderful sounds and Central Park was packed with local residents picnicking on blankets and sipping on summer refreshments and eating a variety of foods. It attracted crowds from all over the Santa Clarita Valley.

KHTS held a facepainting booth completely free of charge and a variety of food vendors sold food to accompany the performance.

“The Concerts in the Park features great music and food and an opportunity for local residents to be with their families and friends and experience a great time,” said Mike Fleming, Arts and Events Supervisor.

Queen Nation were all clad in quintessential Queen attire reminiscent of the British rock band. Lead singer Greg Finsley was the recreation of Freddie Mercury. Finsley sported the signature aviator sunglasses, pencil moustache, and leather police hat and apparel. Mike McManus was the complete emulation of Queen’s lead guitarist Brian May with his mannerisms and signature hairstyle.

The set list featured greats like “Good Old Fashion Lover boy” and “Bicycle Race.” The night culminated with Queen Nation’s rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Next week on July 13, the band that KHTS sponsored last year, Poor Man’s Poison, who went on to win the entire Texaco Country Showdown receiving $100,000 and the title, “Best New Act in Country Music” in 2012, will be headlining the Concerts at the Park event with 2013 Texaco Country Showdown local finalists Bourbon County, Marie Wise-Hawkins and Suzanne Harper.

This year’s sponsors included First Entertainment Credit Union, SOS Entertainment, Nissan of Valencia, Snow Orthodontics, Solar Universe, Rental Event Services and The Signal.

The Concerts in the Park series occurs every Saturday at 7 p.m. at Central park, 27150 Bouquet Cyn. Road, Santa Clarita, CA 91350.
