Job and Career FairCOC is partnering with The Signal and KHTS AM-1220 to bring more than 50 employers to the fair, representing various industries and career fields with entry, middle and upper level openings.

The fair will also feature a virtual corner, sponsored by KHTS, which will allow job seekers to apply to jobs with companies that could not attend the fair in person.

“This will be a great way to increase the opportunities for job seekers, all at one event,” said Anthony Michaelides, director of Career Services at the college. “We are pleased to partner with The Signal and KHTS in making this job fair available to the community.”

The virtual corner will be equipped with six computers and a KHTS staff member to assist job seekers through the application process.

“This is a terrific opportunity for employers who don’t have the resources to spend a day physically at the job fair,” said KHTS Co-owner Carl Goldman. “Employers can still receive applications and resumes from many qualified local applicants. KHTS will have our representatives there to assist applicants and to facilitate getting the proper candidates to employers.”

Michaelides said that he enjoys holding regular job fairs at COC, and that the primary goal is to help employers and potential employees connect.

“We’re helping a number of different areas,” he said. “First of all, we’re helping our students and our community members to find employment. I can say that we’ve helped in bringing that unemployment rate down by getting people back to work. We’re also helping employers, who have a need as well in filling these positions and finding (employees with) talent and good skills… We’re bringing the employers and the job seekers together.”

Wednesday’s fair is free and open to the public, and parking in all student lots will be free during the event. Job seekers should prepare for the fair by identifying those companies they are interested in and applying online beforehand.

“You have to approach the fair with a goal in mind and a plan in hand,” Michaelides said. “Job fairs are no longer an event you simply show up and expect employers to fight over you. You have to be proactive in approaching each employer with an effective introduction and opening line, and have several prepared questions that will engage the company representative enough to hold their attention.”
