City Task Force To Host Graffiti Vandalism Workshop

Graffiti vandalism costs Santa Clarita more than $600,000 annually. In an attempt to curb the problem, the City’s Graffiti Task Force will host a free workshop on Tuesday, July 9.

“It’s basically just a free workshop for parents, residents, and private property owners explaining how to prevent graffiti vandalism,” said Justin Cummings, Santa Clarita’s graffiti removal coordinator.

The workshop aims to help residents understand basic information about graffiti.

Topics to be covered include: how to identify whether a child is a tagger; understanding parental responsibility; and consequences of graffiti in Santa Clarita.

The workshop will also offer tips for private property owners and business owners who have been victims of graffiti on ways to prevent graffiti in their neighborhood.

“This workshop is a great way for homeowners, parents and business owners to empower themselves and take a stand against graffiti” said Mayor Bob Kellar.

The Canyon Country Community Center will be the site of the workshop, and representatives from the City’s Graffiti Task Force will host the event.

“The City of Santa Clarita has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to graffiti in our community,” Kellar said.

The City of Santa Clarita Graffiti Removal Program is responsible for removing graffiti in the public view within the City.

Graffiti incidents outside of the City’s jurisdiction are forwarded to the appropriate agencies.

The City offers reward money up to $500 to citizens who can provide tips which lead to the arrest and convictions of vandals.

Canyon Country Community Center is located at 18792 Flying Tiger Drive.

The workshop is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. No RSVP is necessary to attend.

For more information about the upcoming workshop, please contact Justin Cummings, graffiti removal coordinator, at (661) 294-2563.

The City of Santa Clarita encourages community members to keep an eye out and report graffiti whenever possible using the City’s online request system, eService, or by calling the City’s graffiti hotline at (661) 25-CLEAN or (661) 252-5326.
