The City of Santa Clarita presents Art Slam, original events inspired by sound that showcases eclectic unique sounds from multiple genres such as folk rock, Caribbean drumming and jazz.
Art Slam is a wide variety of free interactive art showcases and experiences featuring a diverse set of local artists on a monthly basis. This month, Art Slam will showcase multi-instrumentalists, live sound effect demonstrations, a sonic showman, drumming and electronic installatons, a silent disco, and much more.
“We started Art slam as a part of Thursdays at Newhall. What separates this event from typical art events is that we wanted to extend the notion of art beyond a picture of art in a gallery. Art can come in the form of sound and light and interactive experiences,” said City of Santa Clarita communications specialist Heather Sumagaysay.
“Art slam is an experience that the attendee could access art through touch, or what they feel or hear,” according to her statement.
It will feature:
Multi-instrumentalist and Songwriter Adjoa Skiller
Electronic Instrumentalist Franz Keller
Sonic Showman Tony “Sparx Palermo,”
Bucket Drum Circle
Professor Wes Weasely and the Strolling Theremin will be available to make your own music
Video Jockey David Cabrerra
Unique Folk Trio Alex Davis & the Ary Sisters
Rob Ray, who makes site- specific installations, wondrous public games, and experimental videos
Colin Honigman & Andrew Walton will present an interactive immersion installation.
It is a free series a part of the monthly Thursdays At Newhall event. It is on Thursday, June 6 from 7pm to 11 pm at Lyons Avenue & Main Street in Old Town Newhall.
