City Of Santa Clarita Announces Central Park Sports Fields Nearly Finished

The Central Park Sports Field Phase III is nearly complete with two sports fields to be finished soon.

"The new lighted parking areas, cross-country running path, and exercise plaza area are open to the public," according to a press release by the city of Santa Clarita. "The sports field turf area will remain City Of Santa Clarita Announces Central Park Sports Fields Nearly Finishedclosed and fenced off during the completion of the turf establishment/maintenance period."

The sports fields are scheduled to be opened in September to let the turf grow in, said Christina McGoldrick of the communications division of the city of Santa Clarita.

"Phase three of the Central Park project will include two new, full-size, lighted, multi-use sports fields on 11 acres and will also include 170 new parking stalls, lighted walkways connecting to existing park facilities, and improved running path, irrigation, landscaping and drinking fountains," according to a city press release.

The exercise plaza was originally installed by Eagle Scout Troop 2222 a while ago, said McGoldrick. For the expansion, the city made some enhancements and added shade structures.

When the project is completed in September, it will have costed the city $2.4 million.

"City staff hope the new fields will help them accommodate the many teams, youth and sports groups who use the parks year-round for practice, training, and games," according to a press release.

The park currently has a basketball court, baseball diamond, several multi-purpose fields, a food stand and child play areas.

Concerts in the Park is held at the park for several Saturdays during the summer and various other events are held at the park including Relay for Life and child through adult sports events.

The park is located in Saugus near Saugus High School off of Bouquet Canyon Road.
