The City of Santa Clarita is expected to host the Old Town Newhall Public Library’s first birthday on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The celebration is expected to consist of free festivities for all ages, including the Hattie and Harvey Show, story time, craft activities, a chance to win prizes  and free birthday cake while supplies last.  

The one year anniversary celebration is expected to include:

• The Hattie and Harvey Show at 11:00 a.m. – Experience a fun and comedic show featuring Doug Hoover as the magician “Hattie” and his kooky sidekick, Harvey.
• Birthday Cake at 12:00 p.m. – Enjoy delicious birthday cake while supplies last.
• Birthday Story Time with special guests at 12:30 p.m. – The fun continues with stories read by local dignitaries.
• Birthday Craft Activities from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. – Attendees will have the opportunity to create birthday-themed crafts.

 “It’s going to be a fun afternoon celebrating the Old Town Newhall Library’s first birthday. There’s many fun activities in store and there will be free birthday cake! I encourage the Santa Clarita community to come join in the fun,” said City of Santa Clarita Communications Specialist Jessica Jackson.

 According to the Santa Clarita Public Library Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2012-2013, The Old Town Newhall Library’s recent installation and grand opening of the Old Town Newhall Library garnered 4000 visits alone in September 2012 and had an annual attendance of approximately 306,778 patrons.

“Since the day we opened the doors, children, teachers, students, parents, and community groups have embraced the library as the place to meet, to share a book, a conversation, and to collaborate,” commented Mayor Bob Kellar.

 “This one year celebration is not only to commemorate our anniversary, but to thank our community for making it such a memorable first year,” according to his statement. 

Additionally, patrons who attend the celebration and check out materials with their FREE Santa Clarita Public Library card will be entered into a raffle to win one of two NEW Kindle Paper White e-reader.  The drawing will close at 5 p.m. and winners will be notified by Monday, Sept. 30.

 The Old Town Newhall Library is located at 24500 Main Street in Old Town Newhall.
