Mayor Bob Kellar and Councilmember TimBen BoydstonThe new bike trail will be installed primarily along Golden Valley Road, connecting Centre Pointe Parkway and the Golden Valley Bridge over Soledad Canyon Road. It will provide easier access to the Santa Clarita Sports Complex and business district at Golden Valley and Centre Pointe, in addition to connecting to Golden Triangle and the south side of Soledad Canyon.

Kellar said that the city continues to make progress “toward integrating biking and walking in everyday living…”

Spirit Properties CEO Larry Rasmussen“No only are trails a great way to get around town on bike or by walking, but they are also attractive,” Kellar said. “This trail project will include tan color fencing along the trail and will meander around the large oak trees along the way.”

Also in attendance at the groundbreaking were Spirit Properties CEO Larry Rasmussen; Assemblyman Scott Wilk; Councilmember TimBen Boydston; City Manager Ken Striplin; Parks, Recreation and Community Services Chairwoman Dianna Boone and Commissioner Duane Harte.

Local cycling enthusiast, Bob Wagstrom expressed how pleased he was to see the improvements get underway.

“It’s wonderful,” he said. “We used to ride in the street, and it was dangerous.”

The project is expected to be completed next month.
