Canyon Country Veteran Has A Brush With Kindness

Habitat for Heroes, a program Habitat for Humanity of the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys, reached out to a local veteran Wednesday with “A Brush with Kindness.”

Judy Young is a Vietnam Navy Veteran who lives in the Greenbrier Mobile Estates on Soledad Canyon Road. She lives with her two daughters, but is out of work on disability.

Habitat for Heroes reached out to Young to perform critical repairs on her house and build a ramp. The effort was sponsored by Home Depot, which came out with volunteers two weeks ago to begin work. The work was completed by Union Bank and their volunteers Wednesday, giving Young and her daughters easier access to their home.

Local veteran families whose homes are in need of repairs or need to be updated with disability equipment can contact the Habitat for Humanity office in Woodland Hills. After submitting an application for “A Brush with Kindness,” their home will be reviewed by staff and a construction worker.

Habitat is looking for families who could most benefit from their services, according to Marketing Coordinator Sarah Steffen.

“The committee with the board of Habitat for Humanity votes on the families who have the most dire need,” she said, “and provide funding to make repairs and modifications to their home.”
