Deputies are looking for Corey Kieffer, 28, of Canyon Country, in connection with the incident.

At 7:20 p.m. Wednesday night, reports of an on-duty, deputy-involved shooting in the area of Adon Avenue and Sierra Highway, sparked a several-hour manhunt, leading deputies to close down several streets while they scoured the area.

Two helicopters, as well as canine units and assistance from the Lancaster Sheriff's Station, aided in the search.

He is described as a 5 feet, 9 inches tall with blond hair and hazel eyes.

Kieffer is being sought for questioning in connection with an armed assault on Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station deputies, according to Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.

Kieffer currently has a no-bail warrant out for his arrest involving an active burglary investigation, according to Sheriff's Station officials.

On March 14, he was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station on a robbery charge. On March 23 and April 4, he was also booked for misappropriation of stolen property.

During the assault, the suspect allegedly pointed a gun at deputy personnel.

Deputies described him as a known transient who frequents the wash area near Camp Plenty Road and Soledad Canyon Road, according to a Sheriff's Station statement.  The statement also described him as a known narcotic user.

This individual should be considered armed and dangerous, Dubin said. If seen, do not approach.  Immediately call 9-1-1.

Whenever an officer-involved shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department  deputies, multiple investigations immediately begin at the scene.

"Any time there is a hit shooting, or what is presumed to be a hit shooting, homicide detectives respond to the scene of the deputy-involved shooting to investigate," Dubin said. "Homicide is one of the many facets who investigate deputy-involved shootings."

These include separate investigations by the Sheriff's Internal Affairs Bureau, as well as Sheriff's Station or Detective Division investigators.

Attorneys with the Los Angeles Office of Independent Review also respond to the scene and have full access to the facts known to the Sheriff's Department throughout every phase of these thorough investigations.

Once concluded, every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information being released at this time.
