Assemblyman Scott Wilk Talks About Town Hall Meeting In Weekly Update

Assemblyman Scott Wilk gave his Weekly Update on July 31 about his most recent Town Hall Meeting on the Affordable Care Act.

On Tuesday, July 30, Assemblyman Wilk held a Town Hall Meeting to explain the Affordable Care Act to his constituents who still had concerns about the Act.

“The turnout actually ended up being higher than what was reported,” Assemblyman Wilk said.

Chuck Rosen of the California Association of Health Underwriters was also present at the Town Hall Meeting in order to give more information to the people about the Affordable Care Act.

The Town Hall Meeting was more like a seminar, Assemblyman Wilk said. It taught the people about what the act is, what decision you need to make on an individual level, on a small business level and on a large business level, as well as a Q and A session at the end.

“People really, I think, walked away with power. They know whats coming and what they need to do for their individual needs,” Assemblyman Wilk said.

The reason people are still confused about the act can be attributed to a miscommunication on a governmental level and also due to the fact that people do not seek out information when it is offered to them, Assemblyman Wilk said.

“As a member of the legislature, I think that it is going to be incumbent upon me to be responsible to do all that I can to make sure that the law is successful,” Assemblyman Wilk said.

Because it is still the July District Work Period, Assemblyman Wilk has been in Santa Clarita for the past month, but he will be returning to Sacramento next week. During this July time, Assemblyman Wilk has been finding out more about his constituents and their concerns in order to represent them more efficiently in Sacramento.

On July 31, he had a tour planned in Taft that ended up being cancelled. Although disappointed that it was cancelled, this gave Assemblyman Wilk extra time to get some business taken care of before going back to Sacramento.
