The city’s free Thursdays at Newhall series continues this September with a new lineup of nightlife events, city of Santa Clarita officials announced Wednesday.

The events are held on the first, second and third Thursday of the month on Main Street in Old Town Newhall, and are set to feature a chocolate-themed Art SLAM, a Samba dance party and an Emerald City-themed block party.
Art SLAM
A unique chocolate-themed Art SLAM is scheduled to kick off the September lineup on Thursday from 7 to 10 p.m.
Attendees can enjoy an interactive chocolate art exhibit by the ARTree, see Santa Clarita Valley artist Lorelle Miller paint with chocolate and watch Chef Robin Robins create a chocolate sculpture, officials said.
Live cooking demonstrations and food samples from SCV eateries are also planned for the evening, including cocoa-crusted pork shoulder from Chef Judy Gilbert of Culinary Wonders, traditional mole poblano from Chef Raul Bojorquez of El Trocadero and a truffle-making demonstration from Clarice’s Cake and Candy Supply staff.
Several Main Street businesses are also planning to offer guests unique chocolate pairings, including chocolate mousse sliders from Newhall Refinery, muscat and truffle tastings at Pulchella Winery and chocolate tastings at Repertory East Playhouse, according to a city news release.
JAM Sessions
On September 11, JAM Sessions is set to return to Main Street from 6 to 9 p.m. with a Samba dance party.
The family-friendly event “will bring the energy of Rio de Janeiro” to Old Town Newhall with performances by Viver Brasil Dance Company and the opportunity for attendees to play musical instruments, according to their website.
Food, community booths and activities are planned for the evening, and all ages and skill levels are encouraged to attend.
JAM Sessions is presented in partnership with the Ford Theatre Foundation, the James Irvine Foundation and the city of Santa Clarita.
SENSES Block Party
The September series culminates with an Emerald City-themed SENSES block party September 18 from 7 to 10 p.m.
The event is set to “take attendees down the yellow brick road and over the rainbow into the Land of Oz” with themed decorations, a Dunk the Witch activity and live performances, according to the news release.
Savannah Burrows and the Skinny Little Twits are scheduled to perform, while food and drinks will be available for purchase from the Grilled Cheese Truck, the Garbage Truck and Sweet Arleens.
