KHTS AM-1220 is introducing a new blog Aug. 1 called “SCV Buzz,” so Santa Clarita Valley families can share information about local weekend activities.

The blog is scheduled to be run by Los Angeles media personality Laura Nickerson, and will feature the top five family activities occurring in Santa Clarita every weekend.

“I think the community’s going to find a great place to get information about family activities, a great place to network the things that they’re doing with other families, to meet some new people,” Nickerson said. “I think they’re going to find a great home for their weekend plans.”

Nickerson is also expected to record 90-second vignettes about weekend activities that will be played Wednesday through Friday on KHTS AM-1220 to keep listeners up to date about local events.  

“(The blog) is such a great fit for the neighborhood because there’s so many young kids here and so many great things to do,” Nickerson said.

Nickerson hosts the show, “The Buzz” for Calabasas’ public TV network, hosts and produces the radio and television show “Broad Topics” and anchors the weekly news for Dance Channel TV, according to her blog.

She has also established a strong presence in social media, most notably on Twitter @nickerberger and her blog.

“(My work) in other parts of Los Angeles led a lot of people to come to me and ask what they should be doing with their kids that weekend so I was inspired to make it a little bit bigger and move forward,” Nickerson said. “I started making my Twitter feed the place that people went to to find out what to do that day all over Los Angeles, including Santa Clarita. That’s what led me to… make a radio version of it at Hometownstation.”

Nickerson is also a blogger for KOST 103.5’s I Heart Mommies Blog.

“I have small kids and I see a lot of kids sitting with their parents on iPads and phones and not engaging with their families and I think part of that is just that people don’t know what to do,” Nickerson said. “I want my kids and for everybody else’s kids to experience new things, to get out, to be physical and to have a little fun with their families. I think that’s what inspired me to go forward with this idea.”
