Bruckner, a local artist whose work was considered an education tool displaying her paintings and drawings with information available on the species from the Division of Wildlife.
She died of lung cancer Feb. 1.
The exhibit features a 35-piece collection including oil paintings, pastels, charcoal and graphite drawings.
Bruckner said she felt a close connection to nature, which she hoped was reflected in her art work.
"I truly want you to enjoy looking at my paintings and drawings. I want you to see the natural beauty in the wildlife that surrounds us, even if it is not what we usually think of as ‘beautiful.’ I guess what I want most is for you to somehow feel the connection that I do. If I can succeed at conveying any of those feelings with my artwork -- I will be happy,” according to her website.
The public is invited to attend a free reception to celebrate the exhibit on July 9 from 7-9 p.m. at the Old Town Newhall Library.
The "Endangered and Endeared" exhibit is sponsored by the City of Santa Clarita and former Arts Commissioner Sandy Fisher.
As a former member of the Santa Clarita Artists Association, Bruckner won numerous awards for her ability to capture the essence and character of animals as well as the depictions of endangered species.
“Diane Bruckner was a multitalented and beloved member of the Santa Clarita Arts Community. Known for her realistic portrayals of animals, the upcoming retrospective, ‘Endangered and Endeared’, is a stunning exhibit featuring wildlife that showcases Diane’s passion for animals and her desire to create awareness of species nearing extinction,” said Arts Commissioner John Dow. “In this exhibit, Diane’s deep respect for wildlife shines, creating a personal connection between the artist and the viewer. I encourage everyone to come out and view this wonderful exhibit by this "endeared" local artist.”
In addition, she held many positions such as treasurer, webmaster, newsletter editor, and Art Classic Committee Member with the SCAA throughout her artistic career.
