Banda el Recodo and Banda Los Recoditos, both sponsored by Vallarta Supermarkets, will perform on the Miller Lite Grandstand Area stage Sunday, Aug. 18 at 6 p.m.
Banda el Recodo is a Mexican Banda sinaloense group formed in 1938. The group was started by Cruz Lizarraga, a junior high school dropout with no musical background. Lizarraga picked corn in order to buy a clarinet, which he taught himself to play at the age of 19.
Lizarraga died in 1995 and his sons German and Alfonso followed in his footsteps in 2003 to keep the band alive. Lizarraga’s youngest son, Joel, later joined the band and has kept the family involved. Banda Los Recoditos was formed in 1989 by family members of Banda el Recodo, including Alfonso.
Since the band’s early beginnings in Mexico, Banda has been introduced all over the world and has incorporated jazz, swing, classical and Latin dance music.
Tickets for the fair are available until Aug. 15 at $20 for 12 and up and $6 for kids ages 6-11. After Aug. 15 tickets will be $25 for 12 and up and $7 for ages 6-11. Concert tickets are included in the fair admission and seats are first come, first serve.
