Annual Arthritis Foundation Walk To Be Hosted By Magic Mountain

Six Flags Magic Mountain is hosting the Arthritis Foundation’s 2013 Arthritis Walk on Sunday, May 19, to raise awareness and raise funds to help find a cure for this painful disease.

Arthritis Walk 2012Residents in and around the Santa Clarita and San Fernando Valleys and the Greater Los Angeles are invited to participate, and the event is open to families and sociable dogs on leashes.

The walk begins at 9 a.m., but registration will be open as early as 7:30 a.m. Come and enjoy either a one-mile or a three-mile course, a Festival Zone, a Kids’ Zone, live entertainment and refreshments.

Arthritis is a disease that affects one in five adults and 300,000 children nationwide, including roughly half a million people in the Valley alone.

Community leaders participating in the Walk include: Medical Honoree Dr. Wonil Lee and Orthopaedic Honoree Dr. Umesh T. Bhagia. The Youth Honoree is 8-year-old Allyson Absey, who was diagnosed with Spondyloarthropathy, Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis and a related eye condition called Uveitis. Cheryl Gray serves at Honorary Chair of the Arthritis Walk at Magic Mountain.

Arthritis Walk 2012Sponsors include Amgen, Pfizer, Massage Envy Spa, Zimmer, Arthritis Today, Genentech, Abbvie, Center for Orthopaedic Specialists, West Hills Hospital, Euflexxa, Valencia Acura, Rheumatology Associates and Janssen. Media sponsors are KHTS AM-1220 and CBS2/KCAL9.

“Physical activity, such as walking, is crucial to managing joint pain, improving mobility and reducing fatigue often associated with arthritis,” said Manuel Loya, Chief Executive Officer of the Arthritis Foundation, Pacific Region. “It is our hope that participation in Arthritis Walks will lead people to take action to improve their own lives as well as the lives of others with arthritis.”
