“We’re all excited about it,” said Cary Quashen, president and founder of the Action Family Zone Youth Center.

This is the first of many educational meetings that are scheduled to take place every month at the Action Family Zone.

“We’re gonna be doing a series of workshops, and I would love to see everyone there,” said Quashen.

The event is geared toward parents, but all other members of our community are invited to attend.

“The more people we get the better,” said Quashen, “Everybody needs to get involved and come out.”

The sheriff’s juvenile team, who work with adolescents and youth, will lead the event.

“The event is really to profile and highlight the J-team, and it’s an opportunity for parents to check in with them,” said Alex Urbina, director of training and education for Action Family Counseling.

The juvenile team works to understand teenage trends, hangouts and other social activities.

“All the times I’ve been to any of their events, and I’m sitting there as a parent, I think every parent needs to see this,” Urbina said.

The topics that will be covered at the event include the consequences of underaged drinking and driving, violating curfew, gang activity and drug use. Juvenile records, teenage trends and social activities will also be discussed.

The event will be held at 7 p.m. at the Action Family Zone.

Action Family Zone is located at 20655 Soledad Canyon Rd. in Santa Clarita.

About ACTION:

The ACTION Parent & Teen Support Program is a gathering of concerned parents who meet to offer each other support and practical solutions to problems. A parent who has been trained as an ACTION group facilitator, who has experienced just how tough it is to raise a teenager in this day and age, leads each group.
