Irwin Wiener decided not to pursue a career in the arts after studying music in college, but later in life, he made his way back to the canvas.

While enjoying retirement, the 92-year-old has been painting, and he recently put on a show to support the Alzheimer’s Association. His wife was recently diagnosed with the disease.

On Saturday and Sunday at Sunset Senior Living in Newhall, Wiener put up several of his pieces for sale, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association.

Wiener enjoys painting because it gives him the freedom to do anything, he said.

He never intended on selling his paintings, which he sees as a hobby, but he wanted to help support a cause near and dear to him.

His paintings are displayed on Wiener’s website.

His wife has survived a bout of cancer and a brain aneurysm, he said. “She looks as beautiful as the day I married her,” he said.

He and his wife have traveled to more than 100 countries, tasting new foods and exploring the world with his wife.

Wiener still enjoys traveling and lives life to the fullest, he said. He plans on going to Europe with his son within the next year.

Wiener spent between a couple days to a couple months on each of his paintings and often painted over old paintings.

Wiener is also extremely passionate about traveling.

The reason Wiener is selling his paintings for the Alzheimer’s Association is because his wife was recently diagnosed with the disease.

Anyone could see how much Irwin loves his wife by the way he talks about her.  He lights up and has a huge smile on his face.

Wiener loves to talk about his children and grandchildren, as well.

He recently bought an iPad and texts them regularly when he can not spend time with them in person.
