Santa Clarita Hosts Marathon, But Not Winners

A record number of runners took
part in the marathon despite the weather.
The rain didn’t stop more than
3,000 runners from taking part in Santa Clarita’s 13th annual
Runners wove their way through city
streets, paseos and bike paths throughout the valley before ending at the Westfield
This years race saw a record number
of participants with more than 400 people running the full 26.2 mile marathon,
just over 1,200 running the 13.1 mile half marathon and more than 1200 taking
part in the 5k run/walk.
Overall winner Shane Logan of Pontiac,
Michigan, won his first marathon with a
time of 2:37:48.
“I trained real good this summer,”
Shane said. “I ran Chicago
[marathon] three weeks ago so I was ready to run.”
led the entire race and finished with an almost 12 minute lead over second
places Blue Benadum of Malibu with a time 2:49:01.
Taking First place for the women was
Mary Jones of Ventura, with a time
of 3:08:11 followed by Laura Conley
of Malibu with a time of 3:12:46.
Chuck Teixeira was the first Santa
Clarita resident to cross the finish line with a time of 2:52:30. He took
4th place overall and 1st in the Mens 45 to 49 class.
This race is a qualifying marathon
for the Boston marathon in
