West Ranch’s Joey Downey Joins The Master’s College Golf Team

West Ranch graduate Joey Downey will continue his golf career at The Master’s College.

Downey, the 2013 Foothill League MVP, won the Newhall Cup and was part of the West Ranch Foothill League championship team in his senior season.

He joins The Master’s College team that won the Cascade/Golden State Athletic Conference championship and was ranked No. 14 in the NAIA last season.

More golf news, Valencia High graduate Max Homa was selected to the All-Nicklaus Team. He was one of 24 golfers chosen for the team by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Homa’s teammate at UC Berkeley, Michael Kim, was also selected to the All-Nicklaus team.

Homa won the Pac-12 individual championship and the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Individual championship.

In high school baseball, two players from the Foothill League were selected to the Cal-Hi All-State underclass team.

West Ranch’s Jagger Rusconi and Valencia’s Chad Bible earned spots on the Cal-Hi Sports all state team. Rusconi, a sophomore, hit .420 with three home runs for West Ranch last season.

Bible, a junior outfielder, hit .365 with 19 RBIs for the Vikings last season.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers lost to the Colorado Rockies, 9-5, snapping their three-game winning streak.

Yasiel Puig went 1-for-5 and drove in a run. He is hitting .430 and has 19 RBIs on the season.

Hanley Ramirez went 1-for-4 and has a 15-game hitting streak. He is hitting .404.

The Dodgers are off to San Francisco to start a weekend series with the Giants tonght. Hyun-Jin Ryu starts for the Dodgers against Matt Cain for the Giants.
