West Ranch Softball Team Powers Past Saugus

The West Ranch softball team stayed undefeated in Foothill League play with a 5-1 win over Saugus.

Kylie Sorenson hit a three-run home run in the third inning to break a scoreless tie. Keeley Walsh hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to add some insurance.

Lexie Sorenson gave up one run, a solo home run to Ty Cueva, on three hits and struck out two. The Wildcats are 3-0 in league. Saugus dropped to 1-2.

The Valencia softball team needed a little rally late in the game to knock off Canyon. Britney Ross-Smith drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning in the Vikings 4-3 win over the Canyon girls.

Valencia kept pace with West Ranch at 3-0 in league play.

The Hart softball team shut out Golden Valley, 11-0, in six innings. Sienna Vannoy was 3-for-4 with a double and drove in four runs for Hart, which won its first Foothill League game.

In high school volleyball, the West Ranch boys swept Hart in three games and improved to 6-0 in Foothill League play.

In high school golf, the West Ranch boys won the fourth Foothill League match of the season by three strokes over Hart at Valencia Country Club. Hart’s Glen Lee shot the low round of the day, a 2-over 74.

In college golf, The Master’s College men won the NAIA Regional championship at the Diamond Wood Golf Course in Oregon.

The Mustangs, ranked No. 11 in the NAIA, won the three-round tournament by 18 strokes over Warner Pacific.

Thane Ringler tied for third place in the tournament with a 10-over 226. His best round came in the third round, a 1-over 73.

By winning the tournament, the Mustangs qualified for the NAIA national tournament.

The College of the Canyons men’s golf team remained undefeated in Western State Conference play with a seven-stroke win over Santa Barbara at Oakmont Country Club. The Cougars shot 365 as a team.

Sydney Wolf and Jake Katz shot the low rounds of the match, 2-under 70s.

In college track and field, Tim White from College of the Canyons won the triple jump at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays. His best jump was 49 feet, 10 ½ inches. He was also third in the high jump.

In the NBA, the Clippers beat the Portland Trail Blazers, 93-77, and won their sixth game in a row.

In hockey, the Kings lost to the San Jose Sharks, 3-2, in a shootout. Dustin Brown and Jake Muzzin each scored a goal to tie the score in the second period.

In baseball, the Dodgers lost to the visiting San Diego Padres, 9-2. The Dodgers have lost three games in a row and four of their past five.

The Dodgers wrap up their three-game series against the Padres tonight. Clayton Kershaw gets the start for the Dodgers. Tyson Ross will start for the Padres.
