West Ranch Softball Team Loses To Santiago In Quarterfinals Of CIF Playoffs
The West Ranch softball team lost to Santiago from Corona, 6-3, in the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.
The Wildcats ended their deepest playoff run in school history to a familiar foe. The two teams have played four times this season with Santiago winning all four games.
Lauren Lombardi hit a solo home run for the Wildcats in the second inning to tie the score, 1-1. Kylie Sorenson hit a two-run double in the fifth inning to tie the score again, 3-3.
But Santiago scored three runs in the sixth inning to break the 3-3 tie and win the game.
West Ranch ends its season with 20-12 record.
In college track and field, John Gilbertson from The Master’s College was third in the 10,000 meters at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Marion, Ind.
He finished the race in 30 minutes, 25.89 seconds and was 30 seconds behind the winner, Nathan Martin of Spring Arbor.
Saugus High graduate and freshman Karis Frankian was fourth in the women’s 10,000 meters in a school record 36 minutes, 26.04 seconds. Teammate Katrina Graham was 20th in the 10,000.
In the NHL playoffs, the Kings shut out the San Jose Sharks, 3-0, in Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals.
Jonathan Quick recorded his third shutout of the playoffs and his franchise best seventh career playoff shutout.
The Kings are up 3-2 in the series. Game 6 is in San Jose on Sunday.
In baseball, the Dodgers are home to start a weekend series against the St. Louis Cardinals tonight at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers are in last place in the National League West standings and have lost four of their past six games, but took two of three against the Brewers in Milwaukee.
Chris Capuano starts for the Dodgers against Lance Lynn for the Cardinals.
