West Ranch Football Team Wins A Close One Against Knight

The West Ranch football team, ranked No. 7 in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division, narrowly beat Knight, 20-13, on the road in Palmdale.

The Wildcats took a 20-0 lead in the first half and the defense intercepted two passes in the game. West Ranch held Knight to just 99 yards of total offense in the game.

The Wildcats are undefeated at 3-0 to start the season.

The Saugus football team won its second game of the season handily, 45-7, over Buena.

The Valencia football team, ranked No. 2 in the Northern Division, lost to Chaminade in a shootout, 56-34.

Nick Jones (21), pictured, set a Valencia school record with 232 receiving yards in the game. He caught three touchdown passes and had eight receptions against Chaminade.

The Golden Valley football team lost to Highland, 44-6.

In college soccer, The Master’s College women, ranked No. 21 in the NAIA, beat Southern Oregon, 2-1, in overtime.

Jessica Long scored the game-winner in the 97th minute.

In cross country, College of the Canyons is hosting the Southern California Cross Country Preview at Central Park on Saturday.

The meet includes 35 women’s teams and 31 men’s teams. The women’s races start at 9:30 in the morning. The men’s races start at 11.

In auto racing, the NASCAR Citgo Late Models highlight the races at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield on Saturday night.

David Mayhew leads the Citgo Late Model standings at the track and has a 38-point lead over Eric Richardson.

The NASCAR Pro Late Models, Street Stocks and Mini Stocks are also scheduled to race at the track.

The green flag drops at 7.

In baseball, the Dodgers needed extra innings to down the visiting San Francisco Giants, 3-2. Adrian Gonzalez knocked in the winning run on the bottom of the 10th inning.

The Dodgers magic number to win the National League West championship is five.

The Dodgers and Giants continue their series tonight at Dodger Stadium.
