Valencia Softball Team Shuts Out Oxnard

The Valencia softball team shut out Oxnard, 5-0, behind a one-hitter from Sydney Mundell.

Kristina Brackpool was 2-for-3 with a triple and drove in two runs. Wendy Cardinali was 2-for-4 and drove in one run.

Emma Stanley and Nicole Joseph each had an RBI. Britney Ross-Smith and Alley Johnson each had two hits for the Vikings.

In college golf, The Master’s College men finished in fifth place at the Battle of Primm in Nevada. The Mustangs, ranked No. 11 in the NAIA, entered the third and final round of the tournament in first place. But they lost their lead and finished with a team score of 1-over 865.

Thane Ringler shot the low score for The Master’s College in the three-round tournament. He was 4-under after shooting even par in the third round.

In college baseball, The Master’s College is ranked No. 5 in the NAIA top 25 with a 26-9 record. The Mustangs start a three-game series on Wednesday against Concordia, the No. 13 team in the NAIA.

In high school track and field, Golden Valley’s Chelsey Totten won the featured 3,200 race over Samantha Ortega from Saugus by three seconds in the Azusa Pacific Meet of Champions.

Sabrina James from Saugus won the featured 800 race in 2 minutes, 16.42 seconds at the meet.

In high school hockey, the teams from the Santa Clarita Valley did not fare well in week two of the Ice Station Valencia league.

Saugus lost to West Valley, 7-4. Burbank beat Valencia, 3-2, despite a goal and an assist from Collin Stell.

Canyon lost to Bakersfield, 16-2. The Roughnecks from Bakersfield led 6-0 after the first period.

Hart lost to Antelope Valley, 5-4. Cody West scored two goals for Hart.

In spring training baseball, the Dodgers lost to the Colorado Rockies, 7-6. The Dodgers scored three runs in the eighth inning to make it close.

In the NBA, the Clippers started a four-game road trip with a loss to the Dallas Mavericks, 109-102 in overtime. Chris Paul scored a season-high 33 points and had 11 assists for the Clippers in the loss.
