Valencia High graduate Max Homa was selected to play on the Walker Cup golf team for the United States.
Homa, who graduated from UC Berkeley and won the NCAA Division I Individual Championship in his senior season, was one of five golfers announced to the Walker Cup team. The international match for amateur golfers is at the National Golf Links of America in Southampton, N.Y., and starts on Sept. 7.
Homa and fellow Berkeley teammate Michael Kim are on the Walker Cup team. Stanford’s Patrick Rodgers and University of Alabama’s Justin Thomas and Cory Whitsett were also selected.

In high school baseball, Valencia and West Ranch begin play in the inaugural California Classic Summer Elite Baseball Tournament.
The tournament includes some of the top teams in the state. Harvard-Westlake, Alemany, Simi Valley and Moorpark represent Southern California today.
Each team plays four games over three days.
In hockey, the Kings signed team captain Dustin Brown to an eight-year extension worth a reported $47 million.
Brown has spent his entire nine-year NHL career with the Kings and led the team to its first Stanley Cup championship in 2012.
He has scored 181 goals and has 207 assists with the Kings and was an all star in 2009.
In baseball, the Dodgers return to the field tonight against the Nationals in Washington, D.C. Ricky Nolasco starts for the Dodgers. Stephen Strasburg starts for the Nationals.
