Valencia Girls Volleyball Team Sweeps Canyon

The Valencia girls volleyball team swept Canyon, 3-0, to stay undefeated in the Foothill League.

The Vikings, ranked No. 8 in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 poll, have an 8-0 record against league opponents. They are 17-8 overall.

Emily Burns, Emily Bible and Savi Carrol led a balanced attack for Valencia against Canyon. Each had eight kills in the match.

Valencia plays Hart tonight.

The Hart girls volleyball team swept Golden Valley, 3-0. The Indians are 4-4 in the Foothill League. Golden Valley dropped to 0-8 in league.

The West Ranch girls beat Saugus, 3-1, to stay in the hunt for the Foothill League championship. The Wildcats are 7-1 in league. They play Golden Valley tonight.

In college basketball, The Master’s College women lost to Washington State, 94-47, in an exhibition game. Jacquelyn Marshall scored six points and had nine rebounds.

In college soccer, The Master’s College men lost to Concordia, 2-1, in a Golden State Athletic Conference game.

Concordia, ranked No. 16 in the NAIA, took a 2-0 lead in the first half. The Master’s College scored in the 48th minute on a goal by Kevin Scheunemann. Valencia High graduate Zack Klindworth assisted on the goal.

In baseball, the Boston Red Sox won the World Series, beating the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-1, in Game 6.

It was the third World Series title for the Red Sox in the past 10 years.

David Ortiz hit.688 with two home runs and six RBIs in the World Series. He was selected at the World Series MVP.

In basketball, the Lakers lost to the Golden State Warriors, 125-94. Jodie Meeks led the Lakers with 14 points.

In hockey, the Kings beat the San Jose Sharks, 4-3 in overtime. Anze Kopitar scored the game winner in overtime. He has also had an assist on Justin Williams’ goal in the third period that tied the score, 3-3, and sent it into overtime.

Next up for the Kings are the Nashville Predators on Saturday night at Staples Center.
