Trinity Boys Basketball Team Slips Past Santa Clarita Christian

The Trinity boys basketball team escaped with a one-point, 45-44, win over Santa Clarita Christian.

Trinity’s Ryan Brooks led his team with 11 points. The Knights improved to 4-1 in the Heritage League. Santa Clarita Christian dropped to 0-6 in league.

Phillip Webb scored 19 points and made five 3-pointers for Santa Clarita Christian.

The Trinity boys play Valley Torah, the only team in the Heritage League to beat them, on Saturday night.

The Valencia girls basketball team is looking to dethrone Canyon as the Foothill League champion. The Vikings face the Canyon girls tonight in a game that should decide the league title.

The Valencia girls are 7-0 in the Foothill League. They gave Canyon its only loss in league two weeks ago.

The Vikings are coming off a blowout win over Golden Valley. Canyon beat West Ranch in its last game.

Tipoff is at 5 at Valencia High School.

In other games, the West Ranch girls play Saugus. Hart plays Golden Valley.

On the boys side, West Ranch play Saugus and Hart takes on Golden Valley. West Ranch and Hart are tied for first place in the Foothill League standings with 6-1 records. Hart has won six games in a row. West Ranch is 2-2 in its past four games.

The Canyon boys play Valencia. The Vikings have won two games in a row. Canyon is 1-5 in its past six games.

In the NHL, the Kings lost to the Nashville Predators, 2-1, in an eight-round shootout.

The Predators took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Brandon Yip. The Kings tied the score, 1-1, on Dustin Brown’s first goal of the season with seven minutes to play in the first period.

The two teams played scoreless hockey for the next two periods and overtime. The Predators won the game in the eighth round of a shootout, 4-3.

The Kings are 2-2-2 after the first six games of the season. They play the Ducks in Anaheim on Saturday night.
