Thane Ringler From The Master's College Wins Battle Of The Beach Golf Tournament
Thane Ringler from The Master’s College won the individual championship at the Bash at the Beach tournament in Florida.
He was 9-under at 135 after the second round of the two-round tournament. He was also selected to the all-tournament team.
The Master’s College men’s golf team, ranked No. 9 in the NAIA, was fourth in the Bash at the Beach tournament. The Mustangs had a team score of 596.
Michael Reitz finished in eighth place with a 2-over 146 and was 2-under in the second round of the tournament.
In high school softball, West Ranch shut out Pierda Vista, 6-0, and won its final game in the Michelle Carew Classic in Anaheim.
Haley Hineman was 3-for-3 with two doubles and Lauren Lindvall went 2-for-3 with an RBI for West Ranch.
In high school track and field, Canyon’s Jeremy Kimmer set a school record in the decathlon at the Arcadia Invitational meet.
He scored 5,952 points and finished in 10th place at the meet. Kimmer broke the Canyon record of 5,604 points in the decathlon set by Trevor Habberstad in 2006.
Canyon teammate Zach Wims won the 3,200-meter race in a personal best 9 minutes, 13 seconds.
In auto racing, Alex Tagliani, driving for the Barracuda Racing team owned by Valencia’s Bryan Herta, was 11th in the Izod IndyCar Series race at the Grand Prix of Alabama.
Tagliani’s car suffered rear wing damage when it was hit early in the race.
Ryan Hunter-Reay won the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama.
In baseball, the Dodgers beat the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates, 6-2, and completed the weekend sweep.
Hyun-Jin Ryu won his first game as a Dodgers and Adrian Gonzalez drove in four runs.
In the NBA, the Clippers beat the Lakers, 109-95, and clinched the Pacific Division championship.
The Lakers dropped out of the playoffs after the Utah Jazz beat the Golden State Warriors, 97-90. The Jazz have a half-game lead over the Lakers for the eighth and final playoff spot.
The Lakers have five games remaining to climb back into playoff contention.
In the NHL, the Kings lost to the Anaheim Ducks, 4-3, in a shootout. Dustin Brown scored a goal in the third period to tie the score. Jeff Carter scored his 23rd goal of the season in the second period.
But Corey Perry scored the third goal for the Ducks in the shootout to win the game.
Next up for the Kings are the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night.
