Saugus Sweeps Foothill League Cross Country Meets At Central Park

The Saugus boys and girls cross country teams swept the Foothill League races at Central Park.

Samantha Ortega from Saugus set the course record and won the girls race in 17 minutes, 17.53 seconds. The Saugus girls won the meet, 33-44, over Canyon and moved into a tie for first place in league.

Brian Zabilski from Saugus won the boys race in 15 minutes, 30.66 seconds. His teammate, Ethan Pearson, was second. The Saugus boys won the meet, 38-63, over West Ranch.

In high school football, Canyon is looking to go 2-0 in Foothill League play against Saugus tonight.

The Saugus football team is trying to avoid going 0-2.

Canyon beat Golden Valley handily in the Foothill League opener last week.

Saugus lost to Valencia in their Foothill League opener.

In other football action in the Foothill League, Valencia hosts West Ranch.

Valencia, the four-time Foothill League champion, railed in the second half to pull away against Saugus last week.

West Ranch lost to Hart after taking a short-lived lead in the first quarter in their Foothill League opener.

Hart is the No. 1 ranked team in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division and undefeated at 6-0. The Indians play Golden Valley, which has never won a Foothill League game.

In auto racing, the NASCAR Citgo Late Models will highlight the lineup at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield on Saturday night.

David Mayhew has already wrapped up the Citgo Late Model championship at Kern County. He will look to add to his 15 wins at the track.

The Spec Mods, Street Stocks, Legends and Bandoleros are scheduled to race. The green flag drops at 7.

In hockey, the Kings beat the Nashville Predators, 2-1, in a shootout. Anze Kopitar scored the only goal in the shootout period.

The Kings end their road trip going 3-1. They are back home Saturday for a game against the Dallas Stars.

In baseball, the Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers, 4-3, in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series. The Red Sox lead the series 3-2. Game 6 is in Boston on Saturday.

The Dodgers are in St. Louis for Game 6 of the National League Championship Series tonight. The Dodgers trail the Cardinals, 3-2.

Clayton Kershaw is tabbed to keep the Dodgers’ World Series hopes alive. Michael Wacha will start for the Cardinals.
