Saugus High's Abbey Weitzeil Shines At FINA World Junior Swim Championships
Abbey Weitzeil took fifth place in the women’s 50-meter freestyle in 25.48 seconds at the FINA World Junior Championships in Dubai.
Weitzeil, a junior at Saugus High, is only the second woman from the United States to reach the World Junior Championship final in the 50 freestyle.
She also swam on the 4x100 freestyle relay team that won the bronze medal in 3 minutes, 43.04 seconds.

In cross country, Hart High graduate Grace Zamudio, a junior at Loyola Marymount University, won the Mark Covert Classic at Carbon Canyon Park in Brea.
She won the race on the 5-kilometer course in 17 minutes, 45.5 seconds.
In volleyball, The Master’s College women swept Capilano University in three games and improved to 7-1.
In baseball, the Dodgers lost to the Colorado Rockies, 7-5, and had their six-game winning streak snapped.
Newly acquired Edinson Volquez made his first start for the Dodgers. He gave up four runs on six hits and was pulled in the fourth inning.
Michael Young went 3-for-5 and drove in two runs. The Dodgers scored three runs in the eighth inning to cut the Rockies lead to two runs.
