Saugus Girls Soccer Team Wins First Foothill League Game, 3-2

The Saugus girls won their first Foothill League game, 3-2, over West Ranch. Brenna Savoie scored two goals and Angie Weiner, pitcured at right, scored one for the Centurions.

Saugus led 2-0 in the first half before Valerie Mercado scored on a penalty kick in the final seconds of the half.

West Ranch tied the score, 2-2, on a goal by Samy Richards in the opening minutes of the second half. But Savoie’s second goal of the game in the 69th minute proved to be the difference.

The Valencia girls beat Canyon, 2-1. Becca Harrison scored both goals for Valencia.

The Hart girls shut out Golden Valley, 3-0. The Indians are 3-0 in the Foothill League and are unbeaten in their past 11 games.

On the boys side, West Ranch beat Saugus, 5-2.

Hart beat Golden Valley, 3-1. Nico Ferrero had a goal and two assists for Hart.

Valencia shut out Canyon, 1-0. Zack Klindworth scored the lone goal of the game.

In high school basketball, the Valencia girls beat Canyon, 40-38, and improved to 3-0 in Foothill League play. The Vikings beat Canyon for the first time in three years.

The Saugus girls beat West Ranch, 45-37.

The Hart boys basketball team beat Golden Valley, 74-64.

The Valencia boys basketball team beat Canyon, 58-42.

The Albert Einstein Academy boys beat San Fernando Valley Academy, 83-73.

In college basketball, The Master’s College women continue to roll. The eighth-ranked team in the NAIA beat Concordia, 78-67. The Lady Mustangs are undefeated at 16-0.

The Master’s College men lost to Concordia, 88-78.

In the NBA, the Clippers beat the Houston Rockets, 117-109, behind a season-high 30 points from Jamal Crawford. Chris Paul, who is nursing a bruised knee cap, missed his second game in a row.

The Lakers won their second straight game, 104-88, over the visiting Milwaukee Bucks. Dwight Howard and Kobe Bryany each scored 31 points.
