Saugus Girls 4×1,600 Relay Team Sets Fastest Time In The Nation

Four girls on the Saugus track team are among the nation’s elite after winning the 4 x 1,600 relay at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays.

Abigial Frankian, Heidi Hoslet, Samantha Ortega and Sabrina Janes set the fastest time in the nation in the 4 x 1,600 relay in 20 minutes, 21.47 seconds, and broke the time set by Aptos High School.

The Canyon girls were fifth in the 4 x 1,600 relay in 21 minutes, 0.32 seconds.

The Saugus boys were 10th in the 4 x 1,600 relay in 17 minutes, 47.15 seconds.

In high school baseball, West Ranch beat Valencia in a heated, extra-inning affair to stay in first place in the Foothill League standings.

The Wildcats won, 3-2, in eight innings. JD Krauskopf knocked in the winning run with a double in the bottom of the eighth. Jordan Benty hit a home run for West Ranch and was at the center of a scuffle in the seventh inning.

Colton Burns from Valencia was ejected from the game for colliding with Burns while running to first base. Coaches and players argued the call before the game resumed.

West Ranch improved to 6-3 in the Foothill League. Valencia dropped to 5-4.

The Golden Valley baseball team beat Saugus, 6-5, scoring five runs in the seventh inning.

Lukas Granado was 2-for-3 with a double and scored a run for Golden Valley.

The Canyon baseball team beat Hart, 4-3, and scored the winning run in the top of the seventh inning.

Taro Okada was 2-for-4 and drove in two runs for Canyon. The Cowboys are tied for first place in the Foothill League standings with West Ranch. Saugus and Valencia are tied for second place, a game behind the Wildcats and the Cowboys.

In high school softball, West Ranch reached the championship game of the Santiago tournament and lost to Corona Santiago, 5-3. Kylie Sorenson was 2-for-3 with two doubles, scored a run and drove in a run for the Wildcats. She was selected to the all-tournament team.

Julia Lombardi, Lauren Lindvall and Lexi Sorenson also earned spots on the all-tournament team.

The Hart softball team was shutout by Camarillo, 10-0, in the semifinals of Thousand Oaks tournament.

In the NBA, the Lakers lost to the San Antonio Spurs, 91-79, in Game 1 of the Western Conference playoffs. Game 2 is Wednesday night in San Antonio.

The Clippers will look to go up two games to none against the Memphis Grizzlies in their first-round playoff series tonight at Staples Center. The Clippers won the first game, 112-91, on Saturday.

In the NHL, the Kings beat the Dallas Stars, 4-3 in overtime. Jeff Carter scored the game-winner, his 25th goal of the season.  He also had two assists.

In baseball, the Dodgers beat the Orioles, 7-4, and snapped a six-game losing streak. The Dodgers are off to New York to start a series against the Mets on Tuesday.
