More than 5,000 people, from more than 20 different states and five countries are expected to run in the event.

KHTS AM 1220 volunteer, Lori Kozik plans on running in the event.

“I am running for Boston,” Kozik said. “When the Boston Marathon tragedy hit in April, I decided I’m definitely doing the full marathon.”

The 26.2-mile path is relatively flat, said Pat Downing, who’s coordinating the event for the city of Santa Clarita, and the weather is expected to be perfect.

“We have a couple of paseo bridges that you go up and over,” Downing said. “They’re not hard, they’re just annoying if you’re running that far.”

Runners may choose to race in the marathon, half marathon, 5K, Mayors Walk and Kid K.

Santa Clarita residents should be aware of road closures and traffic delays from the marathon, please plan ahead.

Road closures include:

  • McBean from Magic Mountain to Valencia Boulevard will be closed from 5 to 7:15 a.m.

  • Westbound Valencia Boulevard will be detoured to Citrus Avenue and Magic Mountain Parkway from 6 to 7:15 a.m.
