The Master’s College’s John Gilbertson Wins 10K In World’s Fastest Time

John Gilbertson from The Master’s College ran the 10,000 meters in the world’s fastest time of the year at the Stanford Invitational on Friday.

Making his debut in the event, Gilbertson won the heat race in 28 minutes, 50.24 seconds and surpassed the previous fastest time in the world by nearly 20 seconds. Elroy Gelant of South Africa held the fastest time in the world in the 10K at 28 minutes, 30.35 seconds.

In high school baseball, Valencia won a pair of games on Saturday and snapped out of a little funk in Foothill League play.

The Vikings beat Agoura, 16-5, in their first game. Hunter Holland had a huge game going 4-for-4 with two home runs and six RBIs. He hit a three-run home run in the third inning and a solo homer in the sixth inning.

Valencia won its second game, 15-2, over Oxnard. Keston Hiura was 4-for-4 with a home run and a double. Anthony Lepre homered and doubled as well.

The Canyon baseball team beat Oxnard, 2-1, in the Anaheim Lions Tournament.

Cole Mears was 3-for-3 with two doubles and scored the winning run in the second inning.

The Saugus baseball team lost to Dos Pueblos, 13-6, in the Anaheim Lions Tournament.

Joey Mendez was 2-for-3 with a double and drove in two runs for Saugus.

The Golden Valley baseball team lost to Diamond Bar, 4-3, in the Anaheim Lions Tournament.

Josh Baldacci was 1-for-3 and drove in a run for the Grizzlies.

In high school basketball, two players from the Trinity Classical Academy boys team were selected to the All-CIF Southern Section Division 6 team.

Ryan Brooks and Spencer Klehn earned spots on the team. Trinity reached the championship game of the Southern Section Division 6 playoffs and the second round of the CIF Division V Southern California Regionals.

Ako Kaluna from West Ranch was selected to the Southern Section Division 1-A boys team.

Canyon’s Alia McCoy was selected to the Southern Section Division 2-AA girls team.

In high school golf, the Santa Clarita Christian boys golf team lost a match to Desert High by 36 strokes at Edwards Air Force Base.

London Taylor shot the low round of the day for Santa Clarita Christian, a 9-over 45.

In the NHL, the Kings beat the Dallas Stars, 3-2, scoring two goals in the third period. Brad Richardson scored his first goal of the season to tie the score in the third period. Justin Williams scored the game-winner less than a minute later in the period.

The Dodgers open the season today against the Giants. It will be Clayton Kershaw on the mound for the Dodgers against Matt Cain for the Giants. First pitch is at 1:05.
