The Master’s College Women’s Volleyball Team Wins Five-Game Thriller

The Master’s College women’s volleyball team beat Westmont in five games. Both teams are ranked in the NAIA top 25.

The Lady Mustangs, ranked No. 21 in the NAIA, won the fifth game, 17-15. Westmont is the 10th-ranked team in the NAIA.

Sam Dougherty had 25 kills and 13 digs for The Master’s College. Aubrey Pyburn had 11 kills.

In college soccer, The Master’s College women shut out Biola, 2-0, in the Golden State Athletic Conference opener.

Natasha Coyle and Jasmine Benson each scored goals in the second half for the Lady Mustangs, ranked No. 13 in the recently released NAIA poll.

Biola came in as the No. 24 team in the NAIA.

The College of the Canyons men beat Citrus College, 3-1, scoring three goals in the first half of the Western State Conference game.

Jesus Fernandez scored his first goal of the season in the 29th minute to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.

Jamie Bent and Tony Barron also scored for COC.

The Cougars are 3-4-2 overall and 3-2 in the Western State Conference.

In baseball, the Pittsburgh Pirates knocked out the Cincinnati Reds, 6-2, in the National League Wild-Card round of the playoffs.

Former Dodger Russell Martin hit two home runs for the Pirates. They move on to play the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Division Series.
