Iacenda Tabbed To Coach College Of The Canyons Football Team
The College of the Canyons has a new football coach.
Ted Iacenda, who was a star running back at Hart High School, has accepted the COC football coaching job on an interim basis.
Iacenda led Hart to a CIF football championship in 1995. He has been an assistant coach at Alemany High School with Dean and Rick Herrington, who were both assistant coaches at Hart.
Iacenda spent four years as an assistant football coach at COC from 2002-2005. The Cougars won a community college national championship in 2004.
In college basketball, the College of the Canyons men beat LA Valley, 78-69, and improved to 6-0 in the Western State Conference, South Division.
Jaylen Bland scored 23 points for COC.
The COC women lost to LA Valley, 74-64. The Lady Cougars dropped to 5-2 in Western State Conference South Division play. Hope Smith scored a game-high 24 points and had 15 rebounds.
The Master’s College women are on the road for a game against Concordia in Irvine tonight. The Lady Cougars, ranked No. 9 in the NAIA, are coming off a 93-49 win over Arizona Christian and have won three of their past four games.
The Master’s College men take on Concordia tonight as well. The Mustangs upset Arizona Christian, 91-81, on Saturday night. Arizona Christian is ranked No. 25 in the NAIA. The Master’s College men improved to 14-9.
In college baseball, The Master’s College took two of three games against San Diego Christian over the weekend. The Mustangs won the first game, 6-2, on Friday, then split a doubleheader on Saturday.
The Master’s College lost the first game, 3-0, but won the second game, 7-3. The Mustangs play Claremont today.
The College of the Canyons baseball team beat El Camino College, 5-4. Chad DeLaguerra and Ivan Vela each homered for COC.
In the NBA, the Clippers lost to the Washington Wizards, 98-90. They have lost seven of their past nine games.
In the NHL, the Kings are in Ohio for a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight. The Kings are coming off a 7-4 loss against the Anaheim Ducks.
